    heh.

419 Scam baiting has become something of an Internet blood-sport equivalent apparently.

There's a full disclosure of what appears to be the next highest amount scammed from thje scammers by someone calling themselves "Bart Simpson" on a website that for the life of me I can't recall the url for :(

    it was funny.

Ok sure there are many nigerian scammers. but the irish were always well behaved abroad they never committed fraud or took part in riots. me arse have u not seen gangs of new york. we irish are quick to poke fun at immigrants but we tend to forget about the actions of irish immigrants in other countries.

Well times are different now and what you must remember is that these ppl are human beings and any stories in the tabloids about refugees getiing free cars or 5 star hotels are exagerated/unfounded. some of these ppl have suffered horrifically hearing the stories of human rights abuse in nigeria u`d fell that they deserve to be treated well.

AngelofFire - did you read the linked article? They are talking about well known spam/scam emails originating from outside the country. Try googling for "419 Scam".

I am so sick of hearing this racist sh1te.If they get put up in any hotels it isnt the Radisson or the Gresham that they are sent to.They are sent to those sh1t B&Bs that you find around the inner city that the Irish would by and large refuse to stay in.And they dont live in these places forever off the state. They recieve welfare which is alot lower than that given to the Irish.Quite rightly you might say,but you must remember that we had to bring in something like 200,000 foreigners to do work that the Irish who were on the dole wouldnt bother doing.
The Irish until into the 80s had one of the most feared organised crime groups in New York.Even the mafia respected them.
What do the Africans have? One or two gangs in Dublin engaged in fraud, crack dealing and prostitution. Its hardly Harlem or south central LA.People seem to forget that Ireland had hard drug dealers, prostitutes, crime and welfare scroungers way before the asylum seekers arrived.
And the Irish in the states werent entirely left to fend for themselves. There was a limited social service system in the USA.Hospitals for the poor, orphanages etc.
I am so sick of hearing these idiots talking out of their arses.

BTW this isnt against the original starter of the thread.Just against whoever mentioned the bull about welfare and so on.I agree, the fraudsters deserved what they got.

300m euro is less than 1% of the exchequer fund.

I was referring to the scams I read in the Irish Independent last week. Thats what made me mad.

There was five Nigerians (refugees?) claiming 1200E a month in rent each, each for different addresses even though they all lived together in the one house. There were also more..

I think the government should come down on the "scammers" harder

I'm not one bit racist, and I'm not going to start a thread on this topic. The origional post was about scammers.

    Apologies for any misunderstandings,

I am no way condoning their actions. but i think the government shud look to the real "Scammers" these are the people who are costing the exchequer a billion a year. in 1984 there was over 700 million in unpaid taxes. this was a time when the country needed the money the most. ok i admit scamming is wrong and the purpitraitors should be dealt with in accrodance with the law. but we cant jus go on blaming refugees/nigerian scammers for all the countries economic difficulties
