This was a very funny film with some good scenes.
Jennifer Anniston puts in a good performance and Jim Carrey uses it as a vehicle for the usual face pulling stuff.

    Best bit is when
Carrey Does the clint eastwood impression

well worth going to see, you'll laugh a fair few times.

I saw the movie last night and really liked it. Carrey was great in it, I especially liked his attempts to 'potty-train' his dog and his body slam tackle on Jennifer Aniston in the bedroom!!!
Also, there was a great cameo from Spike the monkey of Ace Ventura, Friends and Outbreak fame!
I think Carrey is a genius but if you don't agree then maybe this movie's not one you'll enjoy so much.

Some funny bits, but far too sappy for my liking. Yay everybody isn't God great.

Jim Carrey was great in it though, if you like the man, go see the film anyway. Cinema was packed aswell, doing very well it seems.

It was good for a few laughs but it could have been some much better.

Saw it last weekend. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I loved the scene in the newsroom with the funny voices/noises. :) (Ruined slightly by a knacker who decided to answer his phone during this scene)

Entertaining enough but it's no Dumb & Dumber, Ace Ventura etc.

The funniest part i thought surprisingly came from Morgan Freeman, when he impersonated Carreys "Alrighty Then" catchphrase. Nobody else seemed to catch it though

yo kaids i got that too i was the only one who laughed in the cinema when that happened felt like a right twat

I thought the best bit was when he found out
that the other guy had got the news job and went crazy at the old lady and the boats owner.... I just love that vitriolic, scathing humour that we occasionally see from Carrey. The rest was good too...very good in fact. Weak enough ending though, sadly

I'd definitely recommend it. Best movie I'd say I've seen this year (everything else has been rather average at best, and terrible at worst - and overrated generally *cough* Matrix reloaded) Best comedy I've seen in at least two years...

Twas a good flick, very funny in places.
The entire thing reminded me a lot of Liar Liar though. As someone said its no dumb and dumber, but still worth a look.

I'd like to pull Jim Carrey's face off with the help of a vehicle. Perhaps a tractor lawn mower.

Well all seven of us were in agreement last night - and I'd say we each see at least thirty movies a year in the cinema... care to name a more interesting movie that came out in 2003?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,683 Mod ✭✭✭✭Rew

Super Troops (i know it was last year) was 10 times funnyier then Bruce Almighty. Bruce was as funny as things like Anger Managment and and old scholl both of which wern't great...

The standard of move coming out is terrible... There have been very few good ones confessions of a dangerous mind was very good

As for seeing 30 movies a year i have seen pretty much every movie to come out in the last 2 years, and a very high proportion of them before that...

Super Troopers wasn't it? It had its moments too - infact I'd say that was one of the best (if not the best) comedy of last year. Sorry I didn't see it in a cinema - we got it on DVD and watched it at 2am in a drowsy-esque state, how we all laughed. Good movie... pity that nobody else I knew, apart from the people with me that night, had seen it.

Old School was VERY VERY hit and miss - it doesn't come near Bruce Almighty.

Anger Management was very sappy and sentimental - some of it was great, but some of it just left everybody thinking "why?"

At least thirty movies a year... I'd say I've seen that many this year already, easily.

Actually I agree, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind was impressive... and the standard of movies is very, very poor. I'm really not sure where the problem lies - but all the biggest hits are average at best it seems. (Johnny English and the Matrix Reloaded both spring to mind as recent examples)

it turned into a sh!te love story, had potential tho.

on another subject, i only recently went to see matrix2. i didnt think it was worth starting another thread but i just have to say that Matrix Reloaded is one of the worst films i have ever seen - pure crap.

(Off topic: Yes :P yes it was truly god damn awful - and if you run a search, you'll find everyone giving it praise from high heaven - and if you happen to be one of the people who doesn't like it, you're slammed and told you just don't understand it.

    of course i understand it:rolleyes:
in my view its a poor film, with very little going for it.

What load of crap, typical Carey nothing new, big snore fest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,598 ✭✭✭ferdi

what do you mean typical carrey?
i think he's usually really funny, eg: ace venture 1, the mask, dumb and dumber, the cable guy(brill!!!), me, myself & irene, man on the moon, the truman show, batman and robin (carrey was the only good thing about this movie)

You're obviosly not a fan of Carrey then? Just cos someone is doesn't mean you have to call them a moron you idiot!

Haven't seen the film yet, but I'm a Carrey fan and I'm looking forward to it.
I think some people like Carrey and some people hate him. One or the other, as with most things in life, you shouldn't insult someone cos of an opinion.

Yeah, same here. Flew over the heads of most people I reckon.

Twas a good film, not a great film. Did its job to entertain ya for an hour and a half with a decent amount of laugh out loud moments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 812 ✭✭✭neGev

I though it was fair. Decent enough until about half or three quarters way through it, when it became a bit sappy, for want of a better word.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,211 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

It wasn't the ending that I didn't like, it was one of his better one's. It was just plain unfunny, you could tell they were running out of jokes at the end..

Bad movies make me sad :(

Just one thing to say about the film what an "almighty" piece of crap. Jim still has failed to top cable guy and it remains to be seen if he will.
