Network conflict

Networkings never been my strong point...

I have two NIC's in my machine, one on 192.168.11.X and another on 192.168.0.X. When I disable the first and re-enable it later, I find that I have to reset the latter to get it working again. The netmask is 255.255.255.0 on both. Any idea why this is happening? Windows 2000.

In the network card settings for each card is there a gateway setup for both of them?
Only one of the cards can have a default gateway.
