sky dive

I'm doing a sky dive for charity in a few weeks. I am thinking of just handing in all the money and skiping the jump as i am scared of the thoughts of it. I have no fear of hights, but one thing that does bother me is the fact its a tandum jump and if you combine my weight of 16 stone with that of an average person (the instructor), lets say 12 stone it comes to a hefty 28 stone. i'm teriefied the chute will bulckle under the sudden weight or a strap will gave way.
Anyone know anything about it or has any advide for me.

The charity is St Lukes Cancer Hospital in dublin, all donations are welcome.

Worry about that when you're in the air.

my sister does it nearly every weekend down in carlow. she loves it, hasnt had a problem yet. There's a fair few big boned people doing it, I wouldn't worry. You'll regret it if you don't, the rush is incredible.

How much does it cost to do a skydive and how long before they let you do them on your own.

ive always wanted to parachute/skydive, my main problem though is that i have got a fear of heights and i think i would bottle it once i got up there.

something ive always been desperate to do though.

As far as I know, with most places you can do a solo jump course and they'll let you do a solo jump first time. But other than that you can do a solo after one tandem.
You could always check The Irish Parachute club website to see what way they do it.

we get two options on the charity one
The first is do a solo from 4,000 where the chute opens just after you jump from the plane

and the one we signed for is a skydive from 10,000 feet but you can only do it solo if you have jumped before.

AFAIK you have to do two solo line jumps (chute opens after you jump from the plane) before you can jump without the line.

I did a skydive before in Offaly and I was petrified. Scariest part is moving out of the plan initially and then free falling! I recommend it but only 1 time.

Do the jump you will be fine.

IIRC you don't have to do a tamdem jump, go for the static line a much better experience and it will only be you if you are worried about the weight. Though to be fair the weight will not be a problem with a tamdem jump.

    Go for it and enjoy

Takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory.

Hi North eastern, welcome to boards. This thread was started in 2003, so I think we can presume at this point the original poster has done the skydive :)
