Video Cards for iMacs

I think I know that the answer to this is no, but anyway:

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the Graphics Cards in the new iMacs? I'm 99% certain I can't, but if there is anyway I'd do it, even it meant invalidating the warranty. I love my iMac, but have become increasingly frustrated with its graphics performance when playing games. A freind bought the wide screen iMac with the Nvidia 4 and the difference between it and the 2 in my machine is incredible.

You're right, I'm afraid the graphics controller is built on to the board. Adding more memory can help the machine run faster . . have you tried this ? You should have at least 256MB for OS X.

Confirmation of my fears. I have it running with 768k of ram. All the normal apps I use are fine, but put a game into it and it has a fit. Runs really slowly unless you turn the graphics down, which is a bit crap for something that isn't even a year old.

Was hoping that there would be some way, albeit warranty invalidating, that the card could be changed. Does that mean that if it broke down for any reason, the entire board would have to be replaced?

I have run games like soldier of fortune 2 and medal of honour on a macg4 tower with a 733 MHz CPU with a Geforce card and it was not bad.

What games are you trying to play ?
What is the spec of your iMac?
What resolution are you running the game at?
Are you running any other apps?
Tried disabling any antivirus software ?

Most 3D games on the iMac seem to play better at 640x480 with detail set to medium and disable any fog effects.

    Regards
