was there a few years back, in a place called solznok (sp?).. very poor area as seems most of hungary outside of budapest. Very cheap place to live, theres an irish website selling prime 2 and 3 bed apartments in the centre of budapest for 130000 euro.. so thats an indication..

Whatever ya do stay away from Zwack.. its looks like black rum but has a kick triple that of tequila.. it will massacre ya.. and yer head will be in bits for days after.. :D

just my 2 cents worth.. :p:p:p

zwack? is that the same as unicum? - tastes like crap but I got my brother to bring me home a bottle the last time he was over, just for novelty value.

Went on the rip in Budapest, have some strange memories of walking around an appartment block which was doubling up as a Roman ruin while trying to find where all my mates were. Was woken up on a doorstep by a kind old lady - got back to the hostel early afternoon the next day and my mates had reported me missing. All good fun:D , great place.

The Turkish Baths in Budapest - best "pool" ever.

They were closed for repair when I was there - I'll have to go back. Still, the whole city is full of pools. It was near forty degrees when I was there so they were well appreciated:cool:

I can just agree, I was there one time and the baths are very nice. Even though I found it a bit weird as you had to go in there naked only with an apron on :)

    Hi,
as a local I summed up a few things pros and cons:
    - mostly nice people (just like me;) )
    - hot summers
    - good restaurants (if you forget about the populated tourist areas)
    - rich cultural and nightlife
    - beware of pickpockets (we have quite a few coming from abroad for the summer, although our own would be quite enough...grrr)
    - public transport - not too enjoyable
    - countryside - visit Pécs, Lake Balaton, Sopron, Gyõr etc.
You'll probably have a great time:)
And if you have specific questions, I'll try my best to answer.....

One more thing: try Tokaji instead of Unicum....much, much better
