    See the latest Here

The Entire 3.5Ghz band in all of Norn Iron for €1m .

A mysterious shower called Irish Broadband were active in the early stages of the Auction but the prices were too rich for them it seems from the Results So Far so they retired.

They bid in Norn Iron, Scotland and in Severnside. They punted €200,000 or so for Norn Iron before they pulled out of the bidding. By far the most active bidder is Poundradio who may get all of the UK at the rate they are going....possibly for as little as £20M or less.

Poundradio are owned by the large ( formerly enourmous ) PCCW who recently bought a bit of Global Crossing in Asia. PCCW will no doubt set out to compete with fellow Hong Kong corporation Hutchison, who own the UK 3G Network '3' . Interesting. I wonder if they will smell around the Chorus bandwidth that was forfeited by Chorus yesterday and due for re-licencing this year.

The Sun Bizz Post had a snippet stuck in its rag about two weeks ago stating that IBB were opening an office in Norn Iron (as u put it muck:p ) - with a view to competing for residential wireless broadband biz up there.

"Internet servce for NTR in North

The broadband wing of National Toll Roads plans to launch a fixed price, always-on internet service in the North. NTR Broadband will open an office in Belfast and is close to hiring a senior telecoms boss to run the company. "

Glad to see that the new Drogheda bypass is being put to good use. Perhaps when the Glen Of the Downs expansion is finished IBB might be able to find their way out of Dublin towards the south. Who knows stranger things have happened.
