"The Ticket" IRISH TIMES ad

(caveat for thoughts below: yes, I'm presuming permission was not asked for)

Currently on irish television there is an advert for THE IRISH TIMES' "The Ticket" newspaper entertainment supplement. It features cute animals playing musical instruments. And it is a direct steal from Joel Veitch's infamous punk kittens feature on his website www.rathergood.com

It really pisses me off when people swipe others ideas/work/whatever, without even the common courtesy of informing the public (in some way) where they got the idea from, and asking permission first before using it.

It's probably not illegal for The Irish Times to swipe the idea and not give due credit or ask permission first from Joel to use it, but it sure stinks to me.

    Unimaginative, cynical bar-stewards.

Assuming permission wasn't asked for, it may well be a derivative work and would then be in breach of copyright.
    (haven't seen the original)

Might be worth doing a screen cap (or better still copying the vijo) and sending it to Joel Veitch and seeing what he thinks.

Going to the proverbial horses' mouth? Good idea. ;)

Yeah, you should check it out but I imagine they did pay some sort of royalties. The music on the ad was by Stiff Little fingers and i imagine they also received payment for its use.

I thought it was a pretty cool ad though, as far as ads go, i.e. it's one of the few ads that dosen't make me want to start a bombing campaign of ad agencies:)

I cant honestly believe that Rte would leave themselves open for a copyright lawsuit. Either they paid him, or they didnt have to.
