AFAIK, it's a food regulation requirement where, even in the most unlikely (but nonetheless still possible) circumstances where there may be cross-contamination between product lines. This is for the benefit of nut allergy sufferers.

For example, I had a Peach and Strawberry Yoplait Yoghurt earlier (it was yuck, but that's not the point) and it did, indeed have the "may contain nut traces" on it.

Took me ages to figure why, then I realised it was 'cos Yoplait also do a Hazelnut chocolate (or something like it?) flavour. Hence, between production runs, there may occur some cross-"contamination" of ingredients somewhere along the line.

But yeah, some of the most unlikely foods have the warning.

    It is what it's.

Heh my Dad got a pack of nuts one day and told me that he looked at the packet and it said "May contain nuts"! lol I couldn't contain myself.

That's getting kind of philisophical though....
    what is nuts?
    Are we nuts?
    Is everything one big nut...?

I think they figure out the probability of the product containing nuts and if it's larger than a certain figure they have to apply the sign to the packaging.....

Becuase nuts have a million uses. Including killing some people, but they usually carry a (temporary) antidote around with them.

My underpants contain a warning saying"May contain nuts during use".

Its for people who are alergict to them. I know this guy who is, his cheeks and eyes swell up (Total recall style) purple lips crazy ****, has like 5 minutes to get into a hospital or die.

He has some sort of anti dote or something to slow it down that goes into his heart if it happens.

this cross contamination thing could get messy, what about a factory that makes dog food and pate. It could be a freakin disaster for all concerned.

Or that factory in america that mixed up food and flame retardent..for a year.

tbh, it really does make it useless to people who are allergic, because if most products that say "main contain nuts" nearly definitely don't, they'll all probablye end up disregarding the warning.

But the warning prevents the companies from being sued in case contamination occurs.

Especially when contamination could occur even if some security guard accidentally drops a peanut into a meat grinder.

Damn those pesky security guards and their trickstering ways, damn them to hell! They do that thing with the needle in a condom factory dont they? It's like - they have the whole building free for the night and what do they do? Cause havoc, havoc and wild parties in the warehouses.

    Pah, those pesky security guards.
