Every kid watched Saturday morning tv but what was the best Cartoon ever shown on telly here in Ireland? I'm not talking about rubbish like Johnny Bravo or Johnny Quest (Ppff) but classic cartoons like thundercats, bravestar, teenage mutant hero turtles or even rosie and jim if they take your fancy. (I kno, I kno they werent animated but they weren't real either) So come on people, who was the best childhood hero? Personally I was very fond of Raphael from the turtles. He's one slick mo-fo and who could forget good auld Captain Planet and the planeteers?

"Bravestar, strenght of the bear...." " GOOOO PLANET!!!!"

If rosie and jim can go in there then so can mine, every day after school for years i used to watch charlie chalk, call me crazy but I'd swear I could tell you what drug each of them was on, the lazy gorilla that sat around sleeping in the shade was cool, edward was his name
, and i think trader jones was selling more than just bread and milk to lewis t. duck. not the best but a great show none the less.

My all-time favourite cartoon when a kid was called something like "Mysterious cities of gold" (not sure of title).
It used to be on RTE2 but they stopped showing it in the middle of the series, much to my dismay.

Twas about 2 kids who were sailing from Europe to South America to find lost treasure or something, they had discs made of gold that played some important part in the story. THese are the only fragments of it I can recall. NEbody else rember this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors & Trapdoor. Pure pwnage tbh.

Dungeons & Dragons and Garfield were good too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 558 ✭✭✭mrbungle

!!Battle of the Planets Now there's a cool cartoon.

Someone was looking for the names of the mala characters in Bosco: Sile the snail, grainne the hedgehog, charlie the tree, and fiachra the frog....

....or did he mean Philip and Marion ?? ;)

    Thundercats
    Ulysses
    Dungeons and dragons
G-Force (or was that actually called Battle of the Planets?) (Which was the one that they used to fly in the flaming phoenix? - that's the one I mean)
    Hair Bear Bunch
Perils of Penelope Pitstop ("Hayulp" - what was the name of the mobster gang?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 558 ✭✭✭mrbungle

It was Battle of the Planets. They used to shout G-force when they pulled some special move with their ship, The Phoenix.

The gang in Penelope Pitstops are called the The Something Bunch or Something Mob. Dunno what the something is though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 558 ✭✭✭mrbungle

Anybody remember that show, it wasn't a cartoon. Something similar to Thunderbirds but was set in space.

When things were going bad they used to join their 3 space ships together and form a big robot before kicking-@ss.

One guy was in the head, 1 the body and 1 the legs. It used to take about 1/2 an episode to join all the parts together !!!!!

    Tis killing me ???

I could have sworn that section of the theme tune was "One for all and all for one, Muskahounds are always ready" but I may be wrong.

I totally agree with that. I think that stuff was Finnish. Went out with a girl for a while last year who had Finnish heritage and she absolutely loved the Moomins.

Noway man, that stuff used to totally freak me out. But then again, I used to get totally freaked out after watching any kind of puppet show for long enough. Muppets, Fraggles, etc.

Indeed it was. Great cartoon and excellent action figures.

I don't have the website to hand, but there is a cool website that had details and catalogue scan pictures of what was supposed to be the series 2 characters. But alas, the Visionaries cartoon, toys, and comic book series was stopped! Which was a shame, as all three aspects of the frachise were well done.
