conexant router modem fails to connect to eircom

    hello: i bought an adsl router modem from the uk
    the name is pti connexant pae-ce84
    i set it up to use PPPoE LLC, vpi 8, vci 35, CHAP
    eircom tech support gives no further info than this
    when i did diagnostic test the result was:
    test ethernet lan connection--pass
    test asdl synchronisation--pass
    test atm oam end-to-end loop back--pass
    test atm oam segment loop back--pass
    test ethernet connect to atm--pass
    test simple ppp session o PPPoE connection--pass
    test simple ppp session o ppp layer connection--fail
    rest of tests were skipped after above failure
    the reason given for fail were: user name or password incorrect!
    i have tried default username and password, also isp username
    and password and different combinations but no joy
    any suggestions please?

    Set the modem up as an ethernet bridge then run a PPPoE client on your desktop.

    eh, your username/password is failing, no need to go mad.

    Try PAP instead of CHAP, or try turn on both.

    Check your username and password, watch out for lower case/upper case, 0/o, 1/l mixups. And check you have entered it at the right point, ie. it's not getting confused with some other password on the router.

    Otherwise get back to eircom support.

    i have fixed the above "FAIL" simple ppp session o ppp layer connection...now everything is passed except the very end one which is PING WWW.CONEXANT.COM any ideas on this...

    Don't worry about the ping failure. I have the same router (different brand - same chipset) it does this too and you can't ping WWW.CONEXANT.COM anyway. You should be connected if you pass all those diagnostics tests.

    THANKS -MADSL...FOR THE INFO BUT IM NOT SURE IF EVERY CONFIG IS DONE RIGHT ON THE COMPUTER/ROUTER ITSELF, IM AT THIS FIVE DAYS ALREADY I SHOULD BE CONNECTED BUT THERES SOME SMALL PART THAT I MUST BE MISSING,SEEN THAT YOU HAVE THE SAME ROUTER I WOULD BE VERY PLEASED IF YOU WOULD SEND ON THE EIRCOM SETTINGS FOR OUR MAKE ADSL MODEM ROUTERS ...
