Are Summer Movies Credible?

Summer movies are more often than not released solely to provide some American summer action and fun, but are any of them really credible? Do any of them deserve to be Oscar nominate?

Not to insult any Spiderman fans, but I thought that the film was dreadful. Tobey Maguire talks like a 4 year old child, and the story-line was fairly dreadful. However, it was a great looking film and the cinematography was amazing.

Are there ANY summer films that ARE actually credible?

Which of this summer's big blockbusters will stand the test of time in years to come. Vote up above.

Well, since i havent seen any of above films i'm gonna reserve judgement.
But summer blockbusters are very very rarely oscar material... so i'd say none of them except for maybe T3, simply because it has a legacy behind it.

From that list, I'd like to think The Hulk would have the most chance of being talked about fondly in the next twenty years or so. For one, it's being described as more of a Greek tragedy than an average comic book film, and for another it's got Ang Lee directing.

As a rule though, I don't think summer blockbusters hold much cred. There fun to watch, but there'll be something even more exciting out next year.

It's easy to forget that films can offer more than just popcorn munching fun. Finally (!) got to see Donnie Darko today, definitely reasserted my faith in film as a medium for story telling... As in decent story telling, with messages and ideas and soforth.

    theres an american pie 3?
Naturally, Did you not know that American Pie was originally envisioned as a trilogy?? :D

I'd go with The Hulk........ I'm curious about pirates though, Johnny Depp doesn't tend to star in crap.

The summer movie that promises most, for me, having heard a lot of good word is Bad Boys 2. -No seriously........check it out. ;)

Why is Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions not here?
Bad Boys 2 looks surprisingly good from the trailer (for an action sequel). I enjoyed the first one a lot and hopefully the balanced mix of Action and Humour from the first one continue in the 2nd installment.

I'd go with Terminator 3 - at least it has the function of completing the trilogy if nothing else.

If the Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions were there I'd pick those.

Compleating the trillogy? Bullsh|t. The story was finished just fine at the end of T2. Cameron (sp?) himself said there's no need for a third.

    Can't argue with that tbh.

Indeed bad boys 2 is supposed to be class... and looks it from the trailer. For me the hulk esp with Ang Lee on board. Id like to say T3 but I think we all know... deep down... It'll be crap.

american pie three! it will be a disapointment to all the fans of the envolving storyline and detaiuled characters, im very cautious of sequals you can see the big $$$$$ rolling in the directors eyes, theyre all dissapointing!! (with exceptions)

AICN have a couple of reviews of T3 so far....seems to be shaping up nicely, not as good as the first two, but sure THAT was never going to happen......

The Hulk is a heap of ****.
its 20 mins of action with 2 hours of padding.

An absolute steaming turd of a flick.

this has been a great year for films matrix reloded and revolutioins, star wars ep2, spiderman, lotr, any loads of others not to mention the ones being discussed on this thread.

Only one from your list is from this year. The other three are last years films and LoTR isnt a summer film.

I think the Hulk will stand the test of time with comic fans and T3 has some staying power as a final installment in a triliogy but not much else.

Bad Boys 2 is supposed to be better then the first one but we'll have to wait and see on that one.

American Pie 3 will be a though one to call as four of the cast are missing from the first two.

2 Fast 2 Furious is a good flick but i don't think it will stand the test of time.

Hate to burst your bubble but terminator 3 is just the beginning of the war. In Terminator 4, the war will end. By then no one will probably care though.

    Heres 2 more summer sequels:

    Jeepers Creepers 2

Freddy vs Jason [as in Freddy Kreuger and Jason X/Voorhies
