Who is your favourite actor/actress who always played second fiddle to the big stars but hasnt had many (or any leading roles)

might be tough to think of any?

Mine would be Alfred Molina (raiders of the lost Ark)

first one of the top of my head,Michael Badalucco

    one quick google later...
Winner of the 1999 Emmy Award® for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series,The Practice

His New York stage credits include Waiting for the Dough, The Tooth of Crime, Of Mice and Men, Steel on Steel, and The Love of Don Perlimplin for Belisa in His Garden.

His first speaking part in a feature film was in Raging Bull, which led to additional roles in such movies as Broadway Danny Rose, Miller's Crossing, Sleepless in Seattle, Jungle Fever, The Professional, Mac, One Fine Day, The Search For One-Eye Jimmy, Summer of Sam, and You've Got Mail. The Man Who wasn't there,

Badalucco had a stand-out role as wacky bank robber George "Babyface" Nelson in the acclaimed Coen Brothers' movie O Brother, Where Art Thou?

On television, Badalucco has guest-starred on Law & Order as Davey, a mentally challenged man.

Michael Jeter was one of my favourites, but he passed away earlier in the year.

Still.. Charles Napier rocks mightily. Is Xander Berkeley still a bit-part actor, now that he's riding that 24 wave? Stephen Tobolowsky brings a smile to my face every time I see him.

It has to be Steve Buscemi, i think he is great but highly underrated

Forget his name - ron howards's brother - his face is instantly recognisable

    Definetly Steve Buscemi.

Damn well steals films out from under people's noses!
I mean, look at Con Air!

    Steve Buscemi and Ving Rhames.
I reckon if they gave him a decent part instead of that of the tough man / bodyguard type he'd do a good job.

The late great JT Walsh. He's in too many films to list off, most of them utter pants, but watch him in The Big Picture with that other icon Kevin Bacon. He's great.

Joey 'Pants' Pantoliano - Memento, Matrix, Sopranos, Daredevil etc.

But defo: Seymour Hoffman, Buscemi .. brilliant

Did he murder some cornflakes? I think you'll find that's Serial Killer. :p Come to think of it I could murder some Frosties right about now :D

Anyway my fav bit part actor is Sherman Howard AKA Howard Sherman (handy to be able to use your name both ways round).

For those who don't know, he was Bub in 'Day of the Dead'. The zombie they were trying to house train. Great part.

ANyway he's done all sorts since then including game vioceovers and lots of TV work in everything from Voyager to Sabrina, as well as some movies.

Sherman Howard's IMDB Page should give you all the info you could ever need on him.

I hated Bub so much. I'd probably like that film a lot more if they didn't have him in it.

    Fairy Smurf.

Watched it when it came out but it was such tripe I never went back to it for a second look. Too busy trying to look cool to bother with any sort of continuity.

What was wrong with Bub? he was a:ninja:dude.

Every time I see him in Day of the Dead, I keep thinking of the Monster from Young Frankenstein. More specifically, the Monster during the "Putting on the Ritz" scene in Young Frankenstein.

Plus, he looks a little like Clint Howard.

These aren't good things when you're trying to keep yourself in the mood for being scared.

    Philip Seymour Hoffman

    I suppose.

didn't think it was supposed to be scary though, just funny.

    .

Oh, that was my favorite part from Young Frankenstein!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Yeah but you two always disagree. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,982 ✭✭✭ObeyGiant

I'm not disagreeing - I love Young Frankenstein (and I love Clint Howard, too), and I especially love the Putting on the Ritz scene.

But it's not a great film to be reminded of every time you're supposed to be watching a pretty atmospheric, scary zombie movie - giggling every time you see a particular character just doesn't work for me.

But anyway.. someone was saying something about bit-part actors?
Robert Davi kinda flirts with success every so often, but always comes back to his bit-part and B-Movie roots.
I guess something would be wrong if Robert Z'Dar wasn't mentioned.
Oh, and Larry Drake. Can't forget about Larry Drake.

I felt sorry for poor auld Bub.....

Ke Huy Quan (Jonathan Ke Quan).
He pretty much dropped out of films after the Goonies, and went to become a lawyer (I think). If you're real quick, you can spot him in California Man as one of the "Computer Club" geeks.

Anyone who loves bit-part/b-movie actors should check out the DVD of the Goonies. I think it's only available on R1 right now. Anyway - it's got a fantastic DVD commentary by the entire cast. Occasionally, it changes to picture-in-picture with the taping of the commentary and the film. Kinda nice to see all those kids all grownsed up.

(As far as I know) you're way off! :) He's actually a stunt co-ordinator now. He's worked on 'X-Men' and Jet Li's snore-fest 'The One'.

But since you mentioned Lawyer I think you may be thinking of Quans Goonies co-star Jeff 'Chunk' Cohen who indeed dropped out of acting to become a lawyer.

You are correct, sir. I was indeed thinking of Jeff Cohen (Who is looking pretty buff, considering).

I didn't know Jonathan Ke Quan was now a stunt co-ordinator. I'm kinda glad he hasn't completely dropped off the face of the earth. I really enjoyed Temple of Doom, and the Goonies (and, secretly, California Man too)

Surprised no one mentioned eric cantona Look at moi, i'm french.

Vinny jones was quite good in Lock stock and two smoking barrels, then again in Snatch considering his limited acting abilities. Gone in sixty seconds was just woeful to say the least. I cant wait till his album comes out, fingers crossed that it'll be good
