    Quick question.
If I get ADSL from eircon, can I then get rid of my phone line (for phone calls) thus only having to pay the monthly ADSL charge ?

    Cheers

Presumably not, Eircom are trying to get every penny they can out of you after all plus you need a phone line to get dsl in the first place.

In other words dont give them any more money and go with another ADSL provider!!

Irrespective of your ADSL provider , UTV/IOL/Netsource/Eircom , you will continue to pay €22.50-€23 a month on top of the DSL package for line rental , that all goes to Eircom

It is the highest line rental in the EU, by far.

I've been looking at the Telenor (the incumbent telco in Norway) wholesale DSL deal. They have what they call shared access (DSL + telephony) and full access (DSL only).

With shared access the customer pay Telenor the regular monthly line rental (ISDN €29/NOK 239, PSTN €20/NOK 159). They then get DSL from their ISP and telephony from their telephony provider.

With full access the ISP pay Telenor €7.50 (NOK 60 ex VAT). Most ISP's then pass this charge on to their customers (about €10/NOK 80 inc 24% VAT, with a few charging marginally more and at least one not charging for it at all).

Any chance Eircom will offer something like this?

    /T

So in reality ADSL isn't actually €54 a month, as you have the line rental to include.
    ffs

    Ring Eircom perhaps?

I know esat do only DSL and the mixed bag package.

Can of worms. We've had heated debate about this on the IOFFL board and I've told people to agree to differ. Depends on your setup before getting it in and what you use the line for you see. If you had two lines before (one for calls, one for Net) you'd actually regard it as a saving as you could dump your extra line. If you use your line for Net and calls, you'll be paying the same as before you it's not an extra charge. If you use your line (almost) purely for Net as I do, you'll regard it as an extra charge.
