Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

...and mdlb takes the lead in the challenge for 2012!

Its not clear to me whether we are working off the same targets as have done previously. And damn you RacoonQueen. Still, second place is as high as I'm likely to get this this at any stage.

Edit: and as I speak, Bryangiggsy updates to put me in a tie for first! Close the competition now....

I'll never be top again though. I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm going to have to find some way of measuring milage on my turbo now! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

    Same targets folks, OP edited.

You won't have to change the font colour in the google doc, I have it formtted to do that once you hit the benchmarks.

I'd use my average rolling road speed for an approximation. Its subjective. If you were doing hard intervals you may do 35km or more in an hour on the turbo. Doing BG work you might only do 20-25km although it hurts just as much. Maybe we could establish a standard 30km per hour of turbo if you don't have a monitor?

If you have a cateye or something similar just rig it to the rear wheel. I did that before but had to have the cateye closer to the rear wheel than the handlebar to get a signal.

Should it automatically sort the last table by points and position, it does not seem to after i enter in the information.
Keep notes of your YTD figures as the year progresses folks just in case someone deletes your info!!

Good man JB (you mean you don't have a sweaty notbook version of your stats ?! )

I'm, not sure if google doc auto sorts but I stand to be educated on that. I only used it for the first time this morning, imported a file from excel workbook. The rank and font are just formulae and conditional formats. For now the sorting is manual

Edit: I've an idea how to get the table to aut rank itself once people start hitting targets. It may involve me taking the file offline for an hour or so in a few months. Without cunavalos posting his usual monster cycling mileage it will be interesting to see who get the to the first green mark!

The google docs link might work well as regards dicussion as well, any comments were usually hoovered up and lost with all the updating beneath it but at least the link we need to go to update always remains at the top of this discussion.

Mind you it may need to be a sticky if no-one is posting any comments in here and it goes back to page 5 or 6

    Nope just click the link.

Edit: I'm just assuming that as I can access it without logging in to my google account. I've also set the access to 'anyone' who can open teh link.

I have a nice clean version of Training Peaks so no need for the sweaty notebook:) I was more thinking of people who may not log their yearly totals and only inputted and updated as the sessions went by. If there detals were lost on the old table they had a reference to go back to their last table post where they do not have that with google docs.
I am sure there is a way to autosort the last column by number but i did not want to start messing with it in case i broke it:)

We wondered about that on the 1000 mile running table too, but you can restore previous versions of a google doc

I'm disgusted to be third in the run. Junk miles being thrown on the end of tonights intervals. :)

Got it. Works on my pc but not on my phone. Can you freeze the title row, I didnt want to mess with it, but as you scroll down further it will be easier to still see the titles.

Also, the 1000mile challenge has a second page which auto sorts the data from page one. Think you said that you are sorting manually at present which obviously isnt sustainable.

Put in an X that's for the runners and cyclists who do a bit of cross training. :)

And then when I decide which tri distance I'm doing I can change my entry?

Looks like my new year LSR has me on top of the runners :) This will be the only time this year me thinks.

I've added myself in there. It's my first year in triathlon so I probably wont be achieving major numbers but I'll give it a go.

Now if only I could stop falling off the bloody bike!!

I did a bit of messing around in the background earlier today and both those things should now be done. I think someone else may have fixed the top row on the first sheet before I got to it though.

Yeah I did that. Just couldn't open the second tab in work, thanks again

Put myself in just there. Not a triathlete, just a cyclist with a bit of a running problem... although maybe the other way round at this point. Anyway, this is the first winter I've kept the training up so might be able to get some respectable numbers by the year end! Good bit of extra motivation.

And I've lifted myself from dead last :).

Just me and Bally8 in for sprint distance so far!

Gotta love those commuting kms! :)

eh kind went mad there and popped in a bunch of columns to do a breakdown if you wish. It might make a good refernece for you at the end of the year when you compare against your season results and of course the logs you follow, what the nemesis is doing etc...

Lets see who the turbo king/queen will be
Who get in the OW first
Who would rather run on the treadie than HTFU and get out in the rain...
    Who does sneaky extra cardio...

Oh maybe I've opened a can of worms but these columns may provide some entertainment if nothing else.. If they are still empty in a week I'll assume its a bum idea and remove

Now you can get as geeky as you wish :D

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

There'd better not be points for the extra cardio. Some of us are single. :pac:

My inner nerd will like all these stats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

The 'extra cardio' could be up for debate. walking is out, horizontal jogging out too, unless you clock up kms while doing it :D

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

I hate that I can't see whats going on till I get back to my computer. :) Am liking the new table though.

What is allowed in that section mcos? How is it measured, in time or kms? I've been doing some hill/mountain running/walking does that go in there or is it for stuff like my circuit training/spinning etc?

Its a Nokia and theyre not so hot for apps. Might have a look for it though.

Only one on Ovi is an offline version.

Basically anything cardio related where you (travel)clock up distance and is more effort that walking! What I was thinking was the likes of
    Kanoeing
    Rowing
    Climbing (vertical meters!)
    Ski cross

I remember Krusty Clown wore his garmin in a football game a long time ago!

So the hill running and spinng count.. but you would be entering those on your SBR stats anyway right?

Its very subjective I guess which is why its and optional extra. If someone feels like entering the 10k they put down from a round of golf so be it. You will be at the mercy of Griffin100 et al for doing so though :D

    I'm in for this too.

The more motivation to stick to the training plan the better as far as I'm concerned.
Table looks good and auto update a nice feature good work.

    Ahh.

I'd just assumed that everyone had an Android phone these days, with the odd freak on a fruity phone.

Been a while since I have used my Nokia for anything, although it was actually very good back in the day. I might see if I can power it up again at some point and figure out the best way of editing the spreadsheet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

Just a question on google docs.

If you use a spreadsheet like the one rom developed can you link your mileage totals in the SBR challenge to your total in the season spreadsheet?

That way it would automatcially update the challenge sheet with your data as you update your training logs.

I've looked at this spreadsheet (thanks rom) and I'm trying to work it as a template to allow the inclusion of swim and bike as drop down options on the exercise and then to open further options on the equipment form. Giving you a total per sport and a running total on road bike / TT / MTB etc as well as tracking mileage / km on running shoes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

Hey amphkingwest, not sure with google docs. O the challenge the row with your own name would essentially be 'your' as no one else is going to update your data for you (usually). So I think you could link the idividual cells to your season spreadsheet as applicable. Or have a summary row in your season spreadsheet that populates the data that the SBR needs. Then link the 2. This all makes sense in my head if I was working with excel but I'm span new to google docs and the SBR is as far as I've gone with it so far. Maybe rom can offer a solution?

I thought only IT nerds used Androids so as not to be part of the Apple system, in the same way they have Linux so as not be part of the Windows mass?

    sorry, way O/T

It's ok I've worked it out. it's your position in each of the three disciplines added together. So a perfect score would be 3 and the worse score (based on 26 people) would be 78.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Once the gold and green placings start being hit, the placings change a bit though I think. That's when it gets complicated.

Damn you MCOS and BTH. Damn you both.

5 hour turbo session tonight now. I'll show yee. :(

    Happy New Year folks

As per the evolution of the 1000mile challenge, the SBR is moving to googledocs this year. It basically tidies it all up and makes life easier for everyone. Just click the link below and away you go! Just enter your boardsie name, distance you plan to aim for and then from there each time you visit, just update your numbers. You don't have to edit rank, colours, totals etc as the table will do most of that automatically (I hope!). We can then use this thread for anything else related to the challenge. Like the Oryx vs RC battle, JB type graphs, BTH's celebrations and updates when I get a spare time :)

Of course let me know if there is a malfunction or someone decides to graffitti the thing, the link is open to anyone who clicks on it so this should be less hassle than the old tables....

    Green Benchmarks
    Swim 100k, Bike 2,000k, Run 1,000k
    Gold benchmarks
    Swim 200k, Bike 4,000k, Run 2,000k

    The Link to the table
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsrmH9XuOR17dHBvNG5QZEZ4OUF0cGxGWVZyNkYxamc

    Let the fun begin :D
(I know JB is buckling at the knees under the weight of the numbers he has to upload already )

    Thanks Mike - looks good!

How are you calculating the turbo distances? Are you using rollers or speedo connected to the rear wheel?
