Like ITV (and as expected) BBC's coverage of F1 should be renamed BBC's coverage of the British Drivers in F1 plus Mark Webber - as for some reason he has a blog on the BBC website.

In fairness, when RTÉ covered Formula 1, you would often have swore the only three drivers in the race were Eddie Irvine and whichever two drivers happened to be driving for Jordan that particular year.

Every country is going to give some priority to its own. Personally I've always found both BBC and ITV superior to RTÉ and Setanta's coverage, even if it hasn't been the same since Murray Walker retired.

Well personally I thought it went well today. They seem to be doing the same thing as the do with the wrc, explaining more about everything and then chatting to the drivers, thought the interview with the Director from ferrari was a little strange and the presenter Jake Humpfrey never shut up about the rain but apart from that thought it went well yesterday:)

Ah yes remember the MO NACO gp?

I think BBC are doing a good job. I don't have an hatred of Hamilton and Button even though it would have been really easy for them to go mad for Button.
I don't mind some bias but not to the extent that ITV and James Allen used to do it.

What's wrong with that? They were sheltering in the Brawn hospitality area and god knows they were running out of chat after an hour of red flag.

Gotta say that Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard are as dull as dishwater, and the fella talking to them is very annoying by callining them EJ and DC the whole time.

Apart from that its very good and no ad breaks!

I don't see the problem with that. Now if start taking to him three times per race day then we'll have an issue...

What's wrong with it is that it may be the start of a pattern, a pattern resembling what's happened with the Hamilton clan over the last couple of years.

The race coverage was live from 9am this morning. Repeats are only on their interactive service. Last week was different as the race was on in the very early morning so there were edited repeats on BBC1.

At least there was a bit of back and forth between the dad and Couthard/Jordan, rather than a bland "you must be so proud" ad nauseum.

I think there's a lot of potential, and it's improved since last week. They're making an effort to get across what the whole F1 weekend is like, rather than just the race.

Legard has to be muzzled a bit and still needs to learn not to talk over Brundle.
Jordan, Coulthard, and Humphreys are finding their feet and injecting some humour. With 1 hour pre-race, and 1 hour post-race, there's a lot of time to fill. They need to use Lee McKenzie and Ted more, to take some of the waffling pressure off Jordan and Coulthard, who can only tell us so much.

The only problem with it all is that it makes you miss Walker. He really is irreplaceable.

I agree with pretty much all of that.

A few more reports from the pits would be nice. Also before and after the race if Ted and Lee did two interviews each it would break up the waffling a lot more.
Legard is still finding his feet, it's a big enough change from radio to TV. I have decent hopes though.

I think we should have a rule that ya can't mention Murray, I miss him so! :(

Legard's background as a radio commentator is working against him. He'll need to get used to the fact that we're viewers not listeners and tone down his style. The other thing that Legard and Brundle have working against them is that unlike on ITV they don't have three ad breaks an hour to regroup and work on minor issues. I'll take zero ad breaks and a slightly longer settling in period...

I remember ITV used to interview him quite a bit, back in 2000, when Button was 'the next big thing'. I think he's a bit more low-key than Anthony Hamilton. Plus, he seems like a bit of a character (unlike Hamilton, who never veers off script), and does have a bit of motorsport pedigree himself.

With regard to RTE's coverage of F1, I always liked Peter Collins (and David Kennedy). They had no budget, no non-Irish pitlane contacts, no camera crew, and it often sounded like they were commentating over a poor quality phone line. But for all their faults - over-the-top coverage of Jordan and Irvine and mispronunciations of Peugeot, Monaco, Barrichello, Fisichella and Renault, they were often pretty astute at second-guessing tactics and copping onto what was happening during a race, long before ITV/BBC.

Less Ted please. I often cringe when I hear him and his wrap up remarks from the pitlane. Someone tell him he's not on ITV anymore. I wish he had not been brought over :/

I don't mind Ted too much and the BBC seem to have included him in the memo telling everyone to get their tongues out of Hamilton. :)

I wish he would just report on what he sees and stop giving us his opinion on things.

Really enjoying the BBC coverage, no ad's and so far very good coverage. Their use of the red button is brilliant, no need to remember to tape qualifying before going to work and lots of extra shows on the red button in the build up to the race.

Best moment from todays race for me : Loved the shot from the pits of Kimi getting himself some Ice cream and Cola while in T shirt and shorts while all the other drivers were outside in the thunderstorm looking quite damp. Then the Ferrari guy saying he had not retired and might be rejoining the race if it restarted. !

And WTF were Mclaren and Hamilton up to last week, talk about shooting youself in the foot. I only hope the FIA leave it at that and we don't have more court action with suspensions and fines. The lifetime humiliation should be punishment enough and lets get back to the racing.

If the race was going to restart, they'd have had to give 10 minutes warning, more than enough time for him to get his driving gear back on. Suppose he just figured that the chance of this happening was low enough...

    Still, pretty cool alright.

I can now record the show on Sky+ and watch at a time that suits me, re-watch key moments etc. Also the fact that Friday practice is now covered is fantastic.

Humpheries is better than expected, Legard a bit of a disappointment.

Someone mentioned missing Murray - WHY???? I've never heard him say anything insightful, the occasional comments he gives are sooo predictable. Nice old geezer but way overrated.

John Button is a bit of a character (unlike Hammy Snr) and Jenson himself has developed into a pretty sound geezer. He's modest too, admitting in the press conference the other day that dealing with oversteer was not his forte and something he found difficult. Imagine the current WDC admitting to a weakness.

Jenson even took time to thank his race engineer for all the hard work, even in the Honda outfit. Sounded a lot better than blaiming a team mate. For a moment i thought that was the reason Button said it, but that's not the guy his is.

+1. The Buttons appear very down to Earth and not the polished mediatypes like some others...

Someone fundamentally misunderstands what made Murray Walker the greatest commentator in the history of any sport.

Chatty Talker, Murray Walker , became renown for the gaffes and idiosyncratic behaviour not for the quality of the commentary.

He's obviously gone in for a wheel change. I say obviously because I can't see it"

"With half the race gone, there is half the race still to go"

"Do my eyes deceive me, or is Senna's Lotus sounding rough ?"

"Anything happens in Grand Prix racing and it usually does"

"Alboreto has dropped back up to fifth place"

"As you look at the first four, the significant thing is that Alboreto is 5th"

"I can't imagine what kind of problem Senna has. I imagine it must be some sort of grip problem"

"He is shedding buckets of adrenalin in that car"

"It's raining and the track is wet"

    ROFL :D

    I must admit
I do miss some of Murrays Crazy statements alright

And a few more from Murray :D

"Jenson Button is in the top ten, in eleventh position."

"And this is the third place car about to lap the second place car."

"The lead is now 6.9 seconds. In fact, it's just under 7 seconds."

"And the first five places are filled by five different cars."

    # "And the first three cars are all Escorts, which isn't surprising as this is an all Escort race."
