Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    A prime example of airlines not providing enough time for proper maintenance, while this doesn’t threaten the safety of the aircraft look at the bad press it’s getting them, could have been totally avoided.
    If there was no other open then to dispatch this aircraft then it should have been made a priority that the passengers assigned to it have their seats changed at the gate.

    Even if no one is sitting on them, if the people behind had to brace, they're in trouble. Nothing to hide behind.

    How do people in any bulkhead row or row 1 of any aircraft brace ?
    You bend forward, feet flat on the floor, one hand on top of the other covering your head.

    Apparently they were reseated very quickly and before takeoff, but were assigned the seats on check-in.

    Not ideal.

    In a world where everything ends up on social media and where rational thinking goes out the window, it's very difficult for airlines to explain situations in a clear and effective manner, especially when social media users are always so hungry for likes, retweets and attention. 

    In this instance, it's undoubtably a bad look for the airline and the immediate response was clearly a poor choice but in the grand scheme of things anyone with an ounce of common sense would have waited to see what was really going on before passing judgement.

    Seats are mostly there to prevent passengers flailing about.

    Surely the main risk is from objects (including people) coming from the back of the aircraft? Objects coming from the front of the aircraft would normally only occur in a severe acceleration (other than a nose dive in a sub-sonic aircraft) or steep climb.

    In an incident, in particular excess ground friction, you are much more likely to have air frame deceleration exceeding loose object deceleration, meaning objects will come from the back of the aircraft.

    Some of the replies to the tweet are quite funny though. For a brief moment I thought the first one claiming to be from EasyJet was them trying to make light of it.

    If memory serves the brace position is bend forward till you are touching your knees OR the seatback in front of you. The seatback goes forward anyway so doesnt provide a fixed base anyway.

    Whatever about being assigned seats at checkin surely the gate staff or cabin crew would have been aware and could have intercepted those punters before they got down there.

    They were reseated before takeoff when it all got sorted out. Poor optics though I agree as CC should have been beside the seat
