CE scheme training question.

    Hello , I was wondering if a three day staff training course is considered 'on your own time' or on company time ?

    The course was booked by our organization ,exclusively for our staff , so its not like the regular,self development courses you are encouraged/expected to do off your own bat. I dont mind doing the course , its just the principle of my company not applying correct rules that annoys.

    Not sure your query would fall under state benefits, maybe you might get an answer on the work and Jobs or employment threads 🤔

    I would however speculate any course/ training related to your actual employment would I believe not expected to be done on your own time, especially 3 days of training.

    Thanks for your reply.Might repost the question there later. I feel being 'on a scheme' unfortunately ,is sometimes considered 'not a real job'. Which is how some scheme operators are able to get away with bending the rules.

    Speak to your supervisor. AFAIK All training is part of your 19.5 hours, not extra.

    No problem, apologies, I slightly misread the post, I thought your employer was arranging training, course, I didn't understand your on a CE scheme, I see Maryanne84 has responded and maybe others with experience of tge CE scheme here will offer their opinions 😊

    Generally, if it’s compulsory training eg. Fire safety, health and safety etc it’s on their time, if it’s optional its on your time.

    Got a list from them before Covid and they saying if i was interested in one of the courses i could do one and written off as work hours on the time sheets

    There may not be a hard and fast rule. Some projects may allow you to use your work hours for non-compulsory training, some may not. What I described above is how it’s done in my place. I think that’s the official way it’s supposed to be done.

    I am involved in an organisation that has staff on CE, and training courses are considered as part of their hours.

    There has been some conflict at times where the co-ordinator of the project has complained about CE staff not being available due to training, or wanting that training to be considered as on their own time, and trying to discourage people doing courses. She was told in no uncertain terms that officially work related training is 'work' and therefore part of a person's hours, and that CE staff are expected by the DESP to do training courses.

    This even included a part-time college course one staff member was doing at night as the DESP was paying for it, so if where you work organised training it is very much 'work'.
