Health and fitness myths

    I've noticed that an awful lot of what either passes for received wisdom in the health and fitness sphere turns out, on investigation, to be quite questionable indeed. On top of that, there's a huge amount of therapies and approaches pushed and advocated which are obviously tenuous in the extreme, but which many people accept as worthwhile and efficacious. Detox, for example, is something I always had my doubts about, but it's recommended everywhere- open the Style section of the Sunday Times, and one will invariably find a range of detox options. Yet, according to a thread on the matter here, detox regimes do absolutely nothing that the liver and kindeys do anyway.

    So...I was thinking it might be interesting to have a thread for people to rant about/debunk approaches or interventions that they think are absolutely without merit. I don't know enough about health and fitness to nominate any of my own.
