Not surprised. Used to be a decent Sunday read. Then it went all tabloid. Wouldn't wipe my arse with it these days.

Although the rugby coverage ain't bad.

Yeah but he never insinuated they were closing! It could as easily be some legal action

Why is twatter given such legitimacy?
The Tribune will always be remebered as the birth of ROCK!

Not the worst paper produced in Ireland by any means. Has always been in financial trouble, and Sir. Dr. Anthony J. O'Reilly can no longer afford such indulgences.

The Turbine hasn't been worth paying to read in many years, used to be the Irish Sunday in our house for years then I dunno it just lost its way and became thinner until there really was no point in bothering. A pity.

unfortunately some irish people will always have an appetite for knowing what karla elliot is doing with herself these days, so the sindo will always be popular enough. baxtards.

Because, A LOT of the time, this is where genuine news is reported first. Source hears it, pulls out phone, BAM! Instant reporting.

even though I don't use Twitter and 99% it's pointless sh*te from idiots, this other 1% is what I LOVE about it!

I suppose; but it's the other 99%/narcissists that put the twat in it.

    Latest RTÉ report (16.18):

Receiver to be appointed to Sunday Tribune

    For mobiles:

Sunday Tribune - Receiver to be appointed this afternoon

It is understood a receiver is to be appointed to the Sunday Tribune newspaper.
Staff at the Sunday Tribune were called to a meeting this afternoon amid mounting fears for the future of the weekly paper.
The newspaper currently has 43 staff.
Insolvency company McStay Luby is expected to be appointed receiver.
Independent News and Media, a 29% shareholder in the Tribune, is also its largest creditor.
The paper has been making a loss in a crowded market where there are 17 Sunday newspaper titles.
Independent News & Media has been an investor in the Sunday Tribune since 1992 and has been providing loans of up to €2.5m a year to keep the loss-making newspaper afloat.
It is believed INM is no longer willing to fund the losses at the Sunday Tribune.

Stopped buying it in 2007 when I read that all the Irish rugby players are on drugs and Kerry have no footballing tradition and didn't produce a decent player in 20 years. Sensationalist tripe.

It's always really busy there, hard to see it closing.

The downturn would have out a serious dent in their advertising revenues, esp when it came to the job and property advertising.. I also reckon that O'Reilly wants to save the cash for the Sindo as I'm sure they are also suffering..

Its never good news to hear of someone losing their jobs.. especially in this climate..

delighted, waterstones ran itself in to the ground with extremely poor management, the staff will bounce back and the hefty redundancy payments will help. the Duke might take a hit though :)

sad to see it go, imo was the best sunday paper out there.

However probably the only good thing to come form this is that prick Simon Kelly is now out of work, that tosser who is costing the irish tax payers billions now has nowhere to preech his bullsh!t "back to business" column, what the does he know about business?

That's exactly what it is! It never really made any money, and since Matt Cooper is no longer in charge it doesn't really break any ground!

'Wrongly' If you are going to be caustic, you better get it right.

Attacking a post with the vitriol you displayed obviously makes you a target for those who like to pick holes in statements.

Take it as a lesson from a veteran.

The Tribune hasn't been a decent paper in years. First it became a tabloid, then it cut out most serious reporting in favour of gossip then it introduced 'opinion pieces'..and then it employed that McGuiness one to review restaurants

I feel sorry for the staff who've lost their jobs but the paper has been very poor last few years.

The Irish Times and The Sunday Times are the only relatively decent newspapers left in this country and the latter is a UK paper with an Irish section. Sad :(

Add the nonsensical ramblings of the likes of Una Mulally and Diarmuid Doyle to that.

Also, any time I've seen or heard Noirin Hegarty being interviewed she comes across as very stupid for whatever reason

You mean sad people like you who have nothing better to do than spend hours each day on boards correcting other peoples spelling and grammar?

How did you celebrate your ten thousandth post, have a bottle of wine by yourself on a Friday night?

Suits Independent Newspapers down to the ground, especially in the run up to this election. Went to hell quality-wise when INM took it over anyway, kinda like a FF-Greens thing you might say.

It's in receivership. Anyway, why would you say something like that about any business if it was gone, what kind of a person does it take to get pleasure out of something like this? I'm pretty sure there are some very nice, hard working people there. Is it because they didn't tow the line, exposing corruption in Fianna Fail? Is it because they exposed drug dealers?

And I wouldnt mind but FB has this annoying habit of making up the most unusual of words and calling people pal. He reminds me of some of those old guys you would see in an Al Capone movie with a trenchcoat, pencil moustache, cigarette hanging out of the side of his mouth, sleeked back hair, and a federra hat (did I spell that right), saying "Hey pal, ya lukin at me, huh?!

And then he goes on to correct peoples spelling and grammar,
