    Hi
Have a Ferguson FK1000 receiver and satellite system which I installed back in June; just yesterday the receiver stopped working and the message "EEP1" appears on the display. I tried switching it off and back on again but problem persists. What does this mean, can I fix this myself? Please help, I had to watch the Late Late Show last night! Cheers

    Check the cabling.

Why not try the latest firmware.

    http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/Satellite-Receivers/FK-1000/

Alternatively send Ferguson an email and ask them what the error code means.

(Equal Error Protection (EEP) is an error protection procedure ensures a constant protection of the bit stream.)

Tony here sells Ferguson products perhaps he can help. Try the Firmware first if out of warranty.

Thanks for your reply STB, much appreciated. I purchased this from Tony and I've already emailed him but I don't expect a reply before Monday to be fair to him. I've disconnected the receiver and I'd like to try the "firmware" update but I don't have an RS232 lead to connect to my PC (presumably using an USB port?). Why don't Ferguson supply this lead, the mind boggles! This is all new to me; do I buy this RS232 lead or is there another way around this? Thanks for your help.

They dont want people killing their boxes not knowing what they are doing!!! It may not be the cause of your problem (but it sounds firmware related - I would try it to see if this sorts it - Its okay once you flash the right files to it properly!!!).

Its pretty simple once you have the cable. You can use one of two cables (a null modem cable is about 99c - BUT most laptops these days dont have serial ports. You could also use a r232 to USB cable which are more expensive)

From what I can see there are 2 files needed. Mind you I dont have a Ferguson so Tony is best persons to speak to and I am sure he has a null modem cable.

He posts here but may miss this post. You could PM him.

    The firmware loader

Hi Jack, sorry to hear you are having problems. We answer emails on the weekend but I'm afraid i've not received one from you. Can you try powering up the receiver without the dish cable connected and see what happens?

Perhaps you could re send your mail and i'll get it sorted for you.

Why? All electronic items go wrong at some point no matter what the brand is.

All I can add is to say that I've been selling ferguson for many years and they do not go wrong anymore than any other brand. There have been more problems than usual lately but that particular manufacturing fault (not the one above) has been rectified.

Ferguson are a very good and i think well trusted manufacturer. All makes suffer from problems from time to time.
