Given that we have visitors from Burlesque dancers and requests for tango shoes, is it time we change the name of the forum? I reckon we should, certainly the name 'dance' needs to go for many reasons.

I've started a poll, let me know if there should be any other names...

    New forum name? 54 votes

Yeah think I agree on that too actually, the DJ bit probably puts people who aren't DJs off and those that are will know electronic anyway.

Yeah but the DJ bit also keeps away all the tossers who start 4 new Basshunter/Tiesto threads a day. Start calling it ''electronic'' music and people think Lady GaGa.

As sad as it is to say,the hoi polloi just aren't debonair enough to meet our exacting standards (basic english skills, opposable thumbs, common sense).

But without the DJ bit it might turn off DJ's looking for advise about what controller to buy :p

    No seriously though!

I think "dance music" has too many connotations with DJ Rankin and the chipmunk voices to be taken seriously by the masses.

See after hours when Zascar posted about a gig he was doing (i think?) - Plenty of eejits taking the piss. DJing and electronic music are fairly closely related anyway so I don't think it needs to be in the name.

I think it should defo have "DJing" in it for people lookin for equipment advice and also for the clubbing sub-forum .

    How bout including "House Music"?

But there's no other forum for them to post. We could just create a thread similar to the oldskool / asylum one for anything DJ related.

well, I've never DJ'd in my life, am serious enough about electronic music and love the DJ threads almost as much as the chin stroking stuff that I'm more comfortable working with so Electronic Music & DJing gets my vote

Electronic Music & DJing in the lead so - I reckon give it a few days and see what the consensus it, we can then submit to whatever powers that have the ability to change forum names...

ditch the dj part, anyone with a keen interest on electonic music and half a braincell will know an "electronic music" forum will cover all aspects of it, from actual djing to heated discussions, theres no need to state the obvious.

At first I was for the DJing part but it does attract annoying threads. I say go for Electronic Music, as said earlier, anyone with an interest will know what it means.

Just cast a vote for Electronic music there but can i make a suggestion for one more name just to catergorise it a little better as Electronic music alone could also have threads started relating to 70's & 80's electronic music, The forum is already a sub category of Music so no need to have music in the title of this forum, Also there is far more discussed & chewed over than music on the forum to do with the entire culture that surrounds the Rave, Finally the Asylum/Oldskool thread has a stroke in the name so maybe this for the forum?

    Electronic/Rave generation

    or

    Electronic/Rave culture

This i think would spell it out clearly what the forum is about by homing in exclusivley on the Rave part of Electronic music but leaving it open enough for discussion in general about the culture/generation & eliminate any mistaken unessessary interest.....what do ya's think??

if the word rave is put in the forum title then expect a barrage of 15 year old happy hardcore loving f*ckwits to start posting.

I voted for Techno Snobs but really I think it should be renamed to "My music is more high class and sophisticated than yours and you're a fcuking retard for liking the music you do"
    :pac:

Seriously though, "Electronic Music & DJing" is the right one

Do you not think that the Title 'Dance & Electronic & DJing' would already attract the said undesired 'f*ckwits' if they were interested in posting on the Boards??? I genuinley think that this forum holds no interest for the likes of who you outlined as it is entirley based around discussion......you make it sound like Rave is a dirty word nowadays in Electronic music culture not to be spoken for fear of sending out the wrong impression of what this forum is about!!

Maybe 'Techno Snobs' is a more accurate name for this forum, either way i dont think you will find a barage of 15 year olds ever posting on here whatever it is finally called as it simply, in my opinion, holds no interest for them to sign up having read any of the threads prior to making a decision on whether or not to register.

Did it used to be just called 'Dance and Electronic', and we asked for a separate DJ forum, so they just changed the name, or am I imagining things again?

I went for Electronic Music & DJing, because even though I don't DJ, it seems to be a crucial part of the forum and really should be in the title.

I voted for Electronic Music and DJing, but really - DJing should be a separate sub-forum of the Music forum, to deal with everything to do with DJing - from bedroom, to nightclub, radio, and 21st/smoke machines/lighting etc, and not restricted to/lumped in with a particular genre...

Never happen though. The powers that be in Boards want it all kept together.

Erm... That's kind of what happens in AH:p

I vote for electronic music anyway, sounds the most fitting of the bunch imo.
If you have a few stickies about DJing, I'm sure people won't be afraid to start new subjects on the matter

Yep. Haha were you around back then? I'm pretty sure I was the one who requested a DJ forum but they said no, the best they could do was rename it and add DJ in. DJ'ing does not warrant its own forum but i think its a fundamental part of this one. DJing and music and one and one so I don;t think there is any need to separate them or exclude either

 from lovely soundscape ambience to death metal! Although I suppose in my case from ambience to hard techno.

Actually I'm not a fan of metal - I was in Tower today and they had on what I assume is death metal, I actually had to dig out my MP3 player and lash on some techno very quickly, otherwise I would have had to leave the shop!

I voted electronic and DJing for if a change is unavoidable but tbh I don't see the need. It's not like we're plagued with "I can't believe so-and-so got through to the final of Strictly Come Dancing! Like OMG, WTF? BBQ?" threads. And when the odd tangoist or burlesque-er wanders in, we can choose to be polite and advise them where they might be better off looking, or we can take the pish and be... well... Techno snobs.

  • Subscribers Posts: 8,322 Scubadevils

I don't consider a change to be unavoidable, more because the subject came up I was keen to see what people thought. To be honest I would prefer to see the word 'dance' gone... not because of the salsa dancers etc but because I think it conjures up images of Tiesto etc and I'm a techno snob! :pac:

I think 'electronic' covers all aspects of the genres, be it 70s Krautrock or detroit techno - no need for the word dance basically.

Yeah I was thinking that too, DJing stretches out to all genres and no real need to have it only associated with electronic music... it most certainly deserves a forum of its own but I'd say it would be an ugly place!
