I'm thinking of doing LPI certification. Anyone here done it or have any opinions of the value of it? I'll be starting with 101/102 obviously.

For background I've been using Linux for over a year at home. It not in use in this job but I'd like to move to a new one and this might make me more 'saleable'.

Don't want to hijack someone else's thread but thought it was worth a bump. I'm in a similar situation - want something formal certification-wise to stick on my CV.

Is there any value in this route or is there better?

Just started reading a book - Linux Professional Institute Certification Study Guide - and playing with the examples on the laptop. Last couple of weeks have been a bit mental so haven't done much.

You'd fly through LPIC-1 Khannie - a lot of it's fairly basic. But the catch is that you're expected to know both Debian and RHEL versions of things. So I'm going to dual boot my lappy this weekend with Bunty and FC.

[edit]btw - it's self-paced - you study yourself and then just book the exam in prometric or one of the other centres.

Nice one. Thanks. Had a look at some of the questions and they look fine. I use ubuntu (debian based) and RHEL in work so I shouldn't have any trouble with distro specific stuff. Might just give it a lash for the CV of it.

What's the wallet damage for sitting the test?

€130 for each of the 101,102, 201, 202 and 302 exams. 301 is €206. Prometric do them in two centres in Dublin - Strand St and Stephen's Green.
