Why do I always sneeze 3 times in a row?

Okay this really annoys me, whenever I sneeze I always sneeze once, twice and three time all in quick sucession!

Why does this happen?? Or is it just me??

What is a "sneeze" (or "sternution" in med-speak)? It is the body's way of ridding the nose of an irritation. When the brain's "sneeze center" gets a call about a nose tickle, it alerts the muscles involved in a sneeze (including the abdominal muscles, the diaphragm, pectoral muscles of the chest, and various muscles in the throat, and last-but-not-least, the muscles that close your eyelids) that they have to go to work to expel the irritant. And they are quite effective at doing their job -- a sneeze can propel minute particles at up to 100 mph.

What kinds of things do we expel? It might be dust, cold air, pepper, or other irritants; and how about "photic" sneezers who sneeze when they step into bright light. Or maybe you have a cold with swollen, irritated sinuses -- ah choo! Out comes the mucous and . . . OK, enough on this fascinating subject.

That's nuthin - Our first-year science teacher would frequently sneeze multiple times in a row. Once we counted her sneezing 7 times in one go :eek: She'd look at us with a freaky smile when she'd finished.

i usually sneeze twice and then twice a few seconds later but the worst thing ever is where i sneeze once and im about to do it a second time but i dont sneeze and i feel so un complete!

This one time on some rubbish school tour back in the day I sneezed so many times in a row that my nose bled. And I kept sneezing blood everywhere. True story.

On the subject of sneezing does anybody try to swallow their sneezes or hold their nose and sneeze out their ears instead ?

Holding in a sneeze is bad for the tiny vessels in your throat/nose/all that area. You shouldn't, but I can't preach!

I usually sneeze in pairs and always have done.

However last week I managed to string 9 together in a row. It's the kind of thing I wished I had a blog to record. Is this a record? Probably not.

Think your self lucky - had a "soldering iron" shoved my nose to cauterise it 'cos of frequent nosebleeds.

Saw the smoke coming out of my nostrils and could smell burning for hours (ugg..) - at least the anisthetic worked ..

If somones cutting the grass im sneezing all freaking day. once 9 times in a row. Feels like the heart is about to jump out of my chest. Thats when i try best to get whatever is irritating out of my nose so I don't have to keep sneezing. :P

I sneeze up to seven, eight times in a row, only happens if I don't try to stop them my holding my nose.
I love it it really clears my head.

uuuh it's not that a sneeze is 1/8th of an orgasm, which doesn't make sense (hey guys my leg is 1/5th of an apple!)
they're two quite different thing, sneezes and orgasm.
What it means is that when you sneeze, you use about 1/8th the amount of energy that you would use in an orgasm.

I got out of bed one morning and sneeezed 17 times in a row.
It didn't feel like I just had two orgasms in quick succession although I did have to go straight back to sleep- it really took it outta me!

Eh, I've sneezed up to 40 times in a row, and I regularly sneeze up to 15 times in a row, but then again I have a deviated septum which may be causing some problems up there. The back of your throat is sore, and you can barely breath afterwards.

And I my sneezing is affected by light, like when I ever want to sneeze, and it just kind of goes back in (annoying because you know you are going to sneeze), I look from a dark area, to a light, and I sneeze, STRANGE!

I sneeze a lot coming into the sun in summer, and like Amp I always sneeze twice a day.. and it's usually around 11am-1pm.

My record was 21, though anything up to 12 is more common (I've a dust allergy). I can verify that when you sneeze that many times.. it's not that nice. It kinda feels like when you're blowing balloons when you're young, and your head goes woozy from blowing.

And I have a disgusting story about a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich, a coughing fit, and 20 minutes later, a rifle-like sneeze..

You think thats bad, i had the shakes so bad at work one day my hand slipped while i was populating a PCB, and i managed to stick my own soldering iron up my nose. the smell, the pain, the ridicule of my colleagues.


I also suffer from multiple unprovoked sneezing attacks, i sneezed so much one day, like a previous poster I gave my self a nosebleed and hosed my entire bedroom with blood spatters
