Looking for a good value underwater/rugged camera.

Hi. I find myself needing an underwater/rugged camera for hiking etc. I was wondering if someone had a camera that could recommend that is currently going for a decent price? It would have to be off a website that posts internationally too. Anything I should watch out for in cameras like these, and any cameras I should avoid altogether?

There are quite a few ruggedised waterproof compacts available.

You could look at the Olympus TG-1

One of the deals websites had an underwater camera this morning with a substantial discount i think? Can't remember which and deleted the email, but try boards deals, living social, grabone etc.

Actually, found it in my trash folder. Livingsocial shop, olympus TG610 tough, down from 300 to 175. https://www.livingsocial.com/products/ireland/4446-olympus-tg-610-tough-camera?msdc_id=68&ref=Product080212_email425061 8 have no idea what the camera is like or if that's a good deal on it (seems to be?) But thought i'd pass it on

I have one that has survived numerous knocks and has even gone underwater with it's cable door open. (impatient children and cameras don't mix well!)
Luckily it was fresh water. A month wrapped in a cloth and buried in a kilo of long grain rice dried it out.
It's only drawback is that it's a bit bulky.

For anyone interested in getting a rugged/waterproof camera, I ended up going with this.

I've not had a chance to use it for its intended use yet, but I can confirm that the image quality is fine, and it is a feature rich camera. One thing that worries me, and everyone noticed this too, it's all over the net, is that something in the lens area 'rattles' when you rotate the camera forwards/backwards. Supposedly it's not a fault. It doesn't happen with the lens zoomed out at max. But it seems to be fine, and fully operational. The one thing I don't like about it is that there isn't really somewhere to attach to a carbiner clip.

Check out the GoPro cameras, 11mp still and HD video, fully waterproof housing and bundled accessories for anything you could ever want to do. There are three kits (With the same Camera), Outdoor, Surf or Motorsport. The kits are €349 in most places.

Looking for a good value underwater/rugged camera.
