This frame sneak win from Zhao is going to hurt.

    5-1.

Looks like you are correct score wise so far. Williams not tuned in at all so far though. Xintong not doing anything spectacular.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Looking fairly ominous even at this early stage .

    6-1.

When your luck is in, it's in. Zhao plays a red to the bottom left hand corner at the beginning of the next frame. It misses, but comes across and goes in the opposite corner. It only leads to 8 points though.

7-1 to Zhao. Williams is getting battered. He's barely lifted a finger of resistance.

7-1 after the first session. Those big wigs I mentioned earlier might not need to polish the chains if this keeps going on this way.

What odds was Zhao to win at the start of the tournament

It could’ve and should’ve been 2-2 before the mid session interval.

Xintong now incontention to beat/equal Davis 18-3 record from 1989 v Parrott, without even having to go top gear.

Hopefully for Williams he doesn’t, Parrott is still ashamed by it.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I don't think that record will ever be bettered, or worse-d, depending how you look at it.

wonder how many frames Williams can muster. His confidence looks shot altogether. Zhao looks bulletproof out there.

probably a bit premature at this stage. We hope anyway…

I wonder is it just fatigue? Williams had some battles to get this far, close games. Xintong won his games more comfortably and even had the day off yesterday.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I remember Ronnie saying about 6 years ago the only reason he was still winning was because there was nobody coming up through the ranks as a younger player. The class of 92 are still playing because of that very reason. What's happening to Williams today is of no surprise to me. I'm 50 myself and competitive sport is a young man's game! That's a fact of life. Yes you can still be competitive and enjoy yourself perhaps even more, but expect to be beaten by youth.

The bigger story is as Ronnie suggested, nobody outside of the Chinese is playing the game anymore! That's what needs attention not Hazel's shock and awe that a 50 year old is losing to a guy in his 20s

I dunno - Williams has missed a number of chances today- he also made some wrong decisions - at this level, you make a mistake and you pay the penalty- he was playing yesterday - yes he’s likely tired - I think it’s as simple as that- best he can do is play well this evening and close the gap as best he can - in fact getting some sleep between now and next play could do him good.

He’s the same person who beat Trump yesterday - whilst Zhao isn’t displaying any sense of first time nerves, he’s not invincible - Williams has experience on his side- it’s a big ask to get back on track but it’s not impossible

He was very short for a qualifier at 25/1 going into the qualifying rounds. After his 1st round match proper he was already down to 8/1.

Couple a 5-3 sessions for Mark and we’re 13-11 tomorrow night. Don’t they play 9 frames this evening instead of 8? So a 6-3 session win for Mark makes tomorrow very interesting

I know it is a feature of the commentators to say the crowd is very knowledgeable, but you get the feeling they are waiting for the commentator to tell them if it was a good shot these days. There have been a few instances where you have seen premature claps for average shots and you rarely see the crowd clapping a good shot these days before being told it was good.

At least I remember it being done more in the past without the commentators in the ears and without prompting from them…am I wrong?

Does Xintong keep his money as an “amateur”?

I was also thinking of the furore Murphy caused after losing to amateur Si Jiahui in the 2021 UK Championship. Saying amateurs should not compete with pros. No one has thrown in that dig at Murphy!

Good question. Is he really an amateur?

Ken mentioned in studio beside Ferguson, something about how other players were uneasy about it when it came to points/money. But did not elaborate on it.

Jason Ferguson said it was a situation they never envisaged happening, Xintong winning tour card on Q Tour (getting tour card) and qualifying for WC. First time it has ever happened.

Edit - found article Xintong keeps prize money. Carter and some other players not happy

My memory is it used to happen a lot more before…maybe I have been wrong with the sessions I was watching as well. There is a definite bias towards the home players as well though…and then within that you have the likes of O'Sullivan being more favoured than other local players if they play each other as well. In any case, I do not see how the 50 year old will do with the pressure. There is a reason why in the past 50 year olds have not dominated sports and I think it may tell in the final.

I'm not a fan of the opening credits on BBC this year's Championship. Some of the credits over the years have been great. But not this year. Meh. 😕

Couple of poor decisions there gives a chance to Mark to put some frames on the board could get a bit nervy .

Give it a rest about "the class of '92". 🙄

Right. Time to get something to eat.
