i am starting a new job for the HSE and I was wondering how I work out my hourly rate. I will be starting off at the first pay scale. Thanks

It'll be on your first payslip, but if you divide the annual salary by 52.18 you'll get a weekly figure, then divide that by 35 you'll get the hourly rate.

This assumes you work full time on a standard 35 hour week.

No it's 35 for admin. 37.5 for Nurses.

Ahh ok. My position is Health Care Support Assistant (home help). Would this be 37.5?

@Augme i haven’t received my contract yet. I’ve looked into the payscales already I just don’t know what my hourly rate will work out at. Is there any harm in trying to find this out?

HCA are 39 hours. I would assume yours would be the same

You have your payscale and that will be all people use or understand. once in the HSE no one ever talks about the hourly rate and it is not listed, nor will be, on your contract. in general, its all about the annual salary, and the grades and the increments

@the14thwarrior ok thanks. My role is HCA so it won’t be a mon-Friday 9-5 type job. I will be working different shift patterns so my pay will vary. That’s why I wanted to know how to work out hourly rate. Thanks

The way payroll calculates hourly rate is this: (annual amt/365.25×14)/78. Thats if you pay fortnightly,most hcas are. If you paid monthly, you can use the same calculation for hourly rate.
