Ladies underage age restrictions

Hi there,

Quick question. What are the age restrictions in ladies football for underage? Is it the same as in boys G.A.A.? Play in your own age grade and the grade above if you are in your last year of your own?

I took a quick look at the rules and can’t see any restriction? Is that the case?

We were reminded tonight of the new rule.

At inter county level girls can play up one grade U14’s can play U14’s & U16’s but not U17’s upwards.
At club level they can play up 2 grades so an U8 can play U8’s, U10’s & U 12’s.

It was passed at conference in Killarney in beginning of March & I’m not sure when it came into effect but you can be sure our chairperson is on the ball making sure we are aware of it.

U14s can no longer play in adult competitions so?

because
a ) they are COMPLETELY different organisations so the rules are developed in isolation from each other
b ) because girls are not boys (girls mature earlier than boys)
c ) because ladies gaelic is non contact, and male isn't
d ) because senior lads are now on weights (and who knows what else) and its a danger to the minors to have minors playing on adult teams .

the LGFA have a few interesting rules all right, including one that if you accidently botch a transfer you're grand, completely scott free, whereas in GAA its a 48 week ban for player and club secretary with zero wiggle room.

Thanks for the replies guys. So does it matter where in your current age grade you are? As in an U8 would need to be in their last year of U8 to play U12? Or is it any U8 can play up as far as U12?

I coach ladies football and camogie. Most of the girls I coach want to play hurling and football against girls. They play camogie and ladies football because that's what is available. The inconsistencies in refereeing drive them mad.

I don't think that's correct.

As far as I know you can play in your age group and the age group above. Nothing about being in the last year of your age group.

Ladies football is non contact? Must tell the women in our place so.
There are girls/women doing S&C who eould put most male club players to shame.

Just because girls mature earlier doesn't mean they should play adult games earlier
Maybe if they played their own age group more than going up playing adult then there wouldn't be such a huge fall off in players once girls hit 17/18
