Those Tucsons become problematic as the miles get big. Boot in the Accord wouldn't be that big either.

Thinking of swapping my '02 525i for a diesel something or other. I know I mentioned it previously here but I haven't jumped yet because the E39 is so nice to drive, ~190BHP, and that sound at 5k+ RPM...

Personally I would suggest that you don't. I have owned a rake of cars (including GS450h and e92 335i) and the e39 is still the best all rounder I have owned (Had 2 - manual 530d and auto 530i). I regret selling the e39 and I have looked at various others since and it is really hard to find a good one. Currently driving an automatic 2.7 diesel Merc and while it is great on the motorway, it's certainly not a drivers car.

For a reliable diesel post '07 in bangernomics budget the only reliable option that comes to mind is a Civic/Accord with the 2.2 (and leggy ones at that).

+1. Moving on from a petrol E39 to some diesel sh!t box is the worst motoring decision you will ever make!

I'm having the same argument myself. I've had my petrol E39 for 9 years now, and I love it. I know some day (possibly soon!) I will need to replace it, but what on earth do you replace and E39 with, that is at least as good, if not better? Just save up for the F10 5 series? Suggestions?

Why does it have to be another BMW? There are many other options out there, some of which are superior to the E39.

It's not that good lads

Tax is €951 as per the disc and not €750 as per the ad.

Also it's a Selespeed, so it's either broken or nearly broken :)

Car was purchased by a dealer in February, so the seller isn't the 1 owner that had it since 08. They're flipping it. They will have gotten it very cheap as no dealer would put any amount of money in such a car.

And now for somethng completely different. LHD, so insurance might be an issue, but would be handy for a one way summer roadtrip.

    NCT 12/17, 2 weeks tax. €750

Was the Selespeed used on the 159?

Yep albeit better than the 156 version.

Or risk it for a biscuit. Suspiciously cheap 924 that may need more than some baling twine to fix the boot.

€1800 and 1978, so no NCT needed.

Why not suggest a car Colm instead of critising the last three examples.

On the Alfa, the poster asked where the catch was

I didn't criticise the Lancia or the Porsche.

Here's an Audi with a dent.

Well it meets the criteria of the thread. Short tax and test one could critise that now.

Seems just on the 2.2JTS, there's also an Aisin 6 speed torque converter box used with other engines that for some reason I thought was the only autobox used on the 159

Seller is an odd chap, can't say I'd recommend buying something off him! It's been for sale for a long time which would make me think it's got issues with it.

Do or don't criticise it, I'm not overly worried.

It's lhd. It's an odd car that isn't desirable. Bar someone wanting to drive around Europe slowly in its probably overpriced.
    That's why it hasn't sold.

For the record, my 156 v6 came from pat and I'd happily buy another Alfa off him.
