Can anyone explain why Aldi and Lidl accept Laser cards, but not credit cards?

Presumably because Laser is the equivalent of cash, whereas credit card charges can be charged back. I'd guess the transaction charges on credit cards are a bit higher too, but I could be wrong about that.

    Adam is correct.

All traders loose up to 1.75% of the transaction value every time they accept a credit cards for purchases. (Big retailers etc. can bargain with the credit card companies a bit - but they still end up paying more than 1%. Small companies have no choice but to accept 1.75% or refuse to ttake credit cards.)

For laser the retailer pays no commission AFAIK.

Laser the retailer pays 40 cent no matter the size of the transaction.

Small retailers pay approx. 40c for laser & up to 2% for C Cards.

Large retailers pay 10c for laser and 1% - 1.5% for credit cards. Lodging cash costs large retailers approx 15c per €100.

Therefore if you spend €50 in lidl their charges would be 10c laser, 7.5c cash & 50c - 75c for C card, multiply this by the millions of transactions (approx 30% transactions are by CC) you suddenly have a saving of millions of euro!!!!

They could always do a Ryanair and apply a fee for all credit card transactions. (€2.50 in Ryanair's case)

They will all have to start accepting 'credit' cards since most banks are doing a away with laser and instead replacing with visa/Mastercard debit. So in order to accept debit cards they will HAVE to accept credit cards as they can only accept all visa products or none.
