ood point, probably explains why they didnt know who i went to, they knew id switched but not who to,

they didnt know about ntls weekend internet offer. when i told them about it they were socked, liek they had never hear of it, then then asked how long it was going on,

the dougy bit was when she said "you know we undercut ntl on all phone charges" this isnt true, alot of charge they do but not all, most are the same, one or two are under

and MiCr0 ive even hear of guys coming around to your house from eircom to ask why you left.

started to ask how i found the change over, and was i happy, allso why i changed over,

the best bite, she said if i have any problems with ntl, i can allways let them know and they would be very happy to take me back on, haaaaaa

i said the only way id go back is if i got adsl, and she said they had no plains to release adsl in the near future.
kinda looks good doesnt if to be released in 2months time and commerical trials meant to start sometime next week.

o and anybody thinking of going ntl, its great 50.666 connection most times, on that ive hit 6k downloads and i average out at 5.7k

ADSL finally in rep.ireland in september and am just enquiring is september
the set release date and also will it be available to business's;home users
or both? Also will there be any limit on it eg.download limit and alos if
there is any price set yet thanks

    Hi David,
Thank you for your recent email. Eircom will announce the next part of
its strategy to remain market leader in the communications /
entertainment market when we unveil plans for the introduction of DSL
in the coming weeks. We cannot currently release information
regarding eircom's retail proposition as we are assessing market needs
and how these might best be addressed using DSL.

O We can assure you, however, that we aim to offer customers the best
range of DSL enabled services we can, and we are committed to
providing this technology to as many customers as possible on a phased
basis beginning this year. Actual role out plans have not been
finalised and we are therefore unable to tell you exactly when and
where the service will be available at the moment. Currently, there
are field trials in the Dublin area. As soon as we are in a position
to provide customers with more specific details of eircom's DSL
    offering we will do so.

    Kind Regards

    Dolores

    1. What is DSL?
DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line technology. DSL is a relatively
new technology that makes use of the existing copper phone lines to
significantly increase bandwidth. DSL essentially takes existing voice
cables and turns them into a high-speed digital link.

    2. What is ADSL?
ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. It is Asymmetric
in the sense that it delivers speeds that differ between upstream and
downstream. For example, a 256Kbps/64Kbps connection means you are
receiving data at 256Kbps and outputting data at 64Kbps. ADSL is the
most popular and cost effective form of DSL technology. eircom's
current focus is on delivering ADSL to the market.

    3. What equipment do I need to get ADSL?
In order to benefit from the full capability of ADSL customers are
generally required to obtain the following equipment:

    · ADSL Modem - This is the device that transmits data at high speed
between the customer's premises and the telephone exchange,
    · Splitter - A splitter is a device that separates the voice band from
the data band, allowing voice and data to be transmitted
    simultaneously over a single line,
    · A Computer - A PC or Apple Macintosh is required in order to receive
    high speed Internet access,
    · Ethernet/Network Interface Card (NIC) - This card provides a
standardised way of connecting computers together to create a network,
    · Set-Top-Box - This is a box that allows you to receive a number of
interactive services such as Video on Demand, Pay per view events, web
browsing, email, home shopping and e-commerce services, all through
    your existing television set.
    · Infrared Keyboard - This is a cordless keyboard that allows you to
interact with your digital TV, type emails on screen, as well as visit
and scroll through Web pages on WebTV,
    · DTV Remote Control - Typical of any TV remote control. It allows
users to control the TV, change channels, view the TV guide, and in
some cases send email in a similar way to sending a text messages on a
    mobile phone.

    4. Does ADSL affect regular telephone services?
ADSL should have no effect on regular telephone services. With ADSL it
is possible to perform such tasks as sending a fax, making or
receiving a call, at the same time as surfing the NET or downloading
high-bandwidth information from a corporate LAN.

    5. What are the main benefits/selling points of ADSL?
    - Simultaneous Internet and voice/fax capabilities over a single
    telephone line,
    - Uninterrupted, high-speed Internet access that's "always on",
    - Video on Demand, Digital TV and WebTV,
    - All services can be offered over one connection and potentially
billed on one bill i.e. a service 'bundle'

    6. Is ADSL available in my area?
Availability of ADSL is dependent on industry agreed roll out plans.
For this reason each individual customer's ability to avail of ADSL
and the level of service they can receive will be assessed as part of
a rollout programme which is still under discussion. The availability
of ADSL is subject to a number of limitations e.g. the distance of the
customers premises from the telephone exchange (the ADSL end-user must
be located within three cable miles of an ADSL-equipped serving office
in order for DSL to operate effectively - the bandwidth available
    degrades with the distance travelled).

respect? marriage? adultery? money? carnal knowledge? love?...
    ... blah, blah, blah

    p.s i want dsl

    There are two deals.

The first is the weekend flat-rate deal. This uses Eircoms line. This is available to all NTL customers.

The second is 24/7 flat-rate. This second offer is only available to customers on the recently installed two-way cable.

For £20 pounds a month you get the standard TV package, 24/7 flat-rate 56K and two telephone lines (this is all done over the upgraded cable).

There are about 35,000 households where this applies. Customers in the upgraded areas also have the option of flat-rate cable modem 512K Internet.

They were going to upgrade their entire franchise areas of Dublin, Waterford and Galway.

It's worth finding out if you're in the upgraded area wink.gif

The use of "PREMISES" would seem to imply that Eircom have intended this for use by businesses mainly, leaving us out in the cold.
also, Skeptic1, who might I talk to (being from Galway) about whther my area was upgraded? there's an NTL store I know of but i've never gone in. Would you reccomend getting that weekend flatrate thing? I'm serious;y considering it now.

Thanks skeptic1, good info as usual, cable isn't upgraded in my area. Pity i'd love for some eircom rep to call me, suffice to say, they would hear what this ex SNL user feels about their employer.
Ah well, NTL, if they ever offer broadband or 24/7 dialup,in my area, will get my business, their w/e deal will have to do,till then. Have to say my experiences with them have only been good.

the fact they use premises means nothing,

all it means is they are not commiting themselves to anything.

and NTL Weekend is well worth it, you have abite of await and you NEED windows 9x, or you can get the dun setting off me if your running win2k pro.

its 12 midnight friday to 12 midnight sunday,
its good for £5 your getting 200 hours a month, hell esat charge £20 and think 75 hours a month is extreme wink.gif

Eircom have always maintained that there is very little demand from home users for pure Internet xDSL. They have said that they believe that residentail customers would only be interested if DSL is combined with video services. If they roll out ADSL, the advertising may be aimed at the business customer. What is not known is whether they will allow residential customers to avail of ADSL should they go ahead.

No areas in Galway were upgraded.
