NTL robbing us blind

I have the basic NTL cable package. Used to have the digital, but it's just not worth the cost, so we got rid of it.

Anyway, we've had it in the front room and bedrooms since we moved in two years ago. We weren't being billed for it, but it was on in the bedroom anyways, so that was fine. no complaints there.

Apparently from January 2005 they decided not to charge for extra rooms, but to just charge a €75 fee for installing and activating it. Great, so they've stopped charging for something that we weren't paying for. no problem, suits me fine.

then the other evening they turned it off in the bedroom while they were doing 'upgrades' to our apartment building, and now want to charge me €75 to turn the bloody thing back on again.

    Is this even legal?

I know some people will say that we were getting it and not paying for it so I shouldn't moan, but they stopped charging people for it apart from a connection fee and then go around and disconnect everyone who isn't paying for it anyway and then charge them for reconnection?

it just sounds like they're a bunch of robbing b@stards to me.

I won't be paying for it thats for sure. not them anyway. I'd rather pay someone else €100 to rig our box to get it back on again than pay those robbing cvnts to turn the thing back on again.

Just don't pay your ntl bill - if you are not receiving the "full service" you are paying for, don't pay!

If they are only paying for one active point and it's working then they are getting the "full sevice".

How can just ten euro extra a month for over eighty channels not be worth it, no matter what the content. You will be sorry you did that eventually!

Typical Irish attatude. You get something that you didnt pay for and when its taken away from you, your f'n, blinding and cursing them because they are looking for something you should have payed for in the first place.

Just face the fact that you got away with not paying any rental for 2 years and you were lucky. Now the luck has ran out and you have to pay (though its only a once off payment now) which is what everybody else has to do. There is no need for the bad mouthing of NTL (although Im not a fan of the service)as they have done nothing wrong.

    So your options are:
Pay NTL the €75 and get it installed officially and this means that any maintanance and repair is free

Pay €100 for a unofficial instalation, get the same reception but no free back up

    Do nothing.

And to add to that, maybe you should also consider yourself lucky they are not billing you for 2 years worth of unpaid subscription.

where did you hear this, the web site says

Cable Digital TV (Prices applicable from January 1st 2005)

Additional TV point €2.38 per month

They still charging for the extra points...

i heard it from the guy who i spoke to at ntl when i called to find out why my extra tv point was off.

as for nothing better to do in the bedroom, well, there's plenty to do, mostly sleep with the hours i'm working but in a 1 bed apartment with a couple in it, she quite often wants to watch stuff that i don't and visa versa.

my issue is that they have stopped charging for the service apart from a 'connection charge'. i was already fvcking connected and they cut me off just so they could charge me to re-connect something that was working perfectly well before they cut me off s they could fleece me out of €75 quid to re-do something that they have undone for no other reason than they are a bunch of robbing cvnts.

I'd have no problem paying for it if I'd never had it, but they left it working fir 2 years. if they wanted to charge me €2.38 per month I'd have no problem with it, but they didn't. their mistake not mine.

badmouthing? find me someone here who has something nice to say about them!
