Mobile broadband speeds

My contract is coming to an end in the next month.

Im currently on DSL with speeds ranging between 3-7Mb down and 0.6 up. Its absolutely awful, drops regularly, speeds fluctuate and if one person is using the internet for a download/upload, it kills it for every other device.

My question is, I sometimes have to hotspot off my phone which is a GoMo sim so Eir network.

If I purchase actual mobile broadband, are these the same sort of speeds I am going to see or does their router improve it/no cap? Example in the morning I can get speeds of around 20Mb down/4 up. But usually after 1 o'clock or so they remain around 3Mb for the remainder of the day.

Im wondering will there be an added boost going with dedicated mobile broadband or am I just wasting my time?

The only difference between mobile phone and mobile broadband speeds is the device used.

SIM routers are generally better than phones for signal reception. Adding an outdoor antenna to a router will improve reception further.

You won't get any better speeds by subscribing to a mobile broadband plan, so just use a phone SIM in a router.

Check http://coveragemap.comreg.ie/ and see if you can get any better signal with Three or Vodafone

Hmm not great so. My GoMo sim speeds average 20Mb / 4Mb around the morning but completely fall off a cliff the later in the day which suggests the mast Im connecting to has a high number of users.

All on "Fair" for 4G. I get a very good on 3G with vodafone but not expecting too much from that.

Ah well looks like WISP is my only other alternative until NBI come along.
