More fun doing it yourself. Fly to Bangkok or Singapore and it's your oyster.

Yourself every time, travel agent is gonna sell what they have on the books, where doing it yourself, you'll find fantastic local accommodation, local tour guides etc, we've been going to Asia for many a year and always go independently ....spend the money on yourself not a travel agent.

DIY unless you're after something particularly niche.

I'd split your time between bangkok chiang mai( and Ko samui Chiang Mai for adventure koh samui relax beach and party, fly from Bangkok up to Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai to koh samui, Ko samui back to Bangkok and home. Really up to you how long ya want to stay in each place. Check them out and see what ya fancy doing/seeing in each place, check out flight prices much faster than train/bus, hope this helps.

Always DIY. Doesn't matter if you are going to Galway or Hobart.

Ngoc Son temple is at the lake, the temple of literature is about 10 minutes away. The museum is a good distance away. Get a taxi. They're cheap and relatively honest. If you want to get there faster get a motorbike taxi. Just agree a price in advance.
