I'm doing some research into the 'nicest' new housing estates within the last fifteen years in Ireland - ideally Cork. I know it is subjective but I am looking for the most pleasing to look at, the coolest estates - not necessarily the nicest to live in. Buildings that contribute positively to the landscape. Any thoughts?

Check out the RIAI (Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland) architecture awards for housing which are awarded every year. In addition they have a special silver medal for housing which they also award every few years. This is where I'd start looking. Some might be apartment building which aren't what you're looking for but I reckon it's the best place to start. The AAI (Architects Association of Ireland) awards could also be a place to look but from memory they tend to be one off houses.

    From the RIAI website:

"The Silver Medal for Housing is usually awarded five years after the competition so the building can be evaluated in a mature setting. The RIAI Housing Medal shows the changes in the design of Irelands Housing stock since 1953 and recognises and promotes the best housing in a two year period.

The medal is awarded three years after completion. The Irish Architecture Awards website has full details on all past silver housing medal winning projects.
