Want to buy car in UK but can I sell my car to trade in Ireland first?

    Hi,
I've advertised my car privately and had no interest. I've lowered the price 3 times and it's now about €10k while equivalent in garages are selling for around €14.
I've a feeling its probably because it's still a lot of money to carry around to risk buying privately and without warrenty.

So my question is, I can trade it in for €9k to a local garage, but I want to buy a car in the UK myself. Is the another way I can sell for around €9k to a garage or any special places that buy cars or sell on my behalf?

One tip is to state on your private advert that you are not a Dealer and that you have driven the car yourself for x years without any mechanical problems etc.
Most people are afraid of buying privately because there are a lot of cowboys out there selling cars they know nothing about and conning people.

Why not just drop your asking price close to 9k? How much would it cost to import the exact same car from the UK? That is more realistic than what a dealer is asking for theirs. You need to focus on convincing someone who would buy the same car in the UK to look at yours instead.

Also if you're getting 9k from a garage as a trade-in then you will get less for it from them if you want them to buy it for cash. Trade-in prices are more often inflated to look attractive, garages just take the discount off the new car and add it to the real trade-in value of your car to boost the deal's appeal.

If your saving money by going to the UK to buy then you have to accept that you may have to take some hit on the price you sell your old car for here.

Never knew that, that trade pieces are inflated. It's a minefield!
I can lower the price to €9k but I thought that if it'd too low people may think that there's something wrong with it, if it's far below the similar ones.
Can I trade it in the UK? Does UK garages accept Irish cars as trade in? I know the value may be way less, but I still think I'd save overall on the price of the next one.

Some Northern Irish dealers may take a Southern reg car as a trade-in if they have someone in the trade down here who will buy it from them. You will get UK trade price for it though. Mainland UK dealers won't be interested in it though as it's too much hassle for them to change the speedo, etc.
