iphone 5 backup question

I have a new laptop and haven't yet downloaded iTunes. I have an iPhone 5 and I want to backup contacts. I don't used any Apple apps that need backup. I play music from Spotify. What would be the easiest way to back up the contacts? Maybe they're on icloud but I'm a bit clueless so I',m really not sure what my options are.
