Teat Dip cost and performance comparison thread.

I ran out of teat spray for the milking cows and I just bought a 25 litre can of Virolac in the local Glanbia store for e195.

So I was thinking it might be a good idea to start a thread to compare the cost of teat spray and link in performance (SCC) to get an idea of what is happening on the ground.
I know the dry cow period is a massive influence on the next milking season and what tubes were used if any to treat any problems and also length of the dry period.
But for this thread maybe we could leave that to one side and just include the teat spray brand price and the Somatic Cell Count reading of the last test.

Not sure how this will work out but since some sprays come in ready to use solutions, it would be best to put the price at the ready to use solution per litre.

So the Virolac is diluted at 4 parts water to 1 part Virolac.
    On the container it says 22kgs (I think that's 22 litres ??).
    So 22 litres x 4 = 88 water + 22 virolac = 110 litres of ready to use solution.
    Now e195 divided by 110 = e1.77 / Litre.

So the price is e1.77 / litre.
Then my last SCC test was 62.

So it's now open to the floor.:)

Using virolac here. So same price as you pedigree.
Latest scc 130 but there's a few fresh ones gone in that's upset it atm.
It was down as far as 60 there for a while when no fresh ones went in the tank

I use deosan teat foam dip around €2.20/L. It lasts way longer than a spray so cost per litre isn't a very good comparison.

(Depends who's spraying and with what).:D
Right include whether it's a dip or spray.
So we can compare like for like.

Then include the SCC as well.

It's not a competition or anything folks but just to see can we get a bit of info of the products and their effectiveness with posters.
    That's all.
Or if such a survey has been done beforehand point me to it.
Otherwise let's make use of this chatroom.

Anyone concerned with the amount of vapour we inhale from these sprays in the parlour? I've asked every supplier about how safe their product is for the operator, and they look a t me as if I'm from Mars...

You can request an MSDS for the product I reckon which will provide all that information. Bit odd the suppliers are reacting that way.

For those (like me) using garden type sprayers or small bottles I notice that dairy spares in Athy has a portable ambic sprayer that fits on a hip belt and has a holster for the spray lance. The lance is also longish like the normal ambic ones - I find reaching in front of some of the cows teats a bit of a pain with the little bottles.

Will check what brand we are on and post figures later but at the moment I'm looking for a separate handheld foaming pre dip as well as the usual post milking spray.

Does anyone have a proper foamer unit as opposed to just the foaming product?
