GPU to pair with i3-4160

Hello,

I have recently inherited a system with an i3-4160, 8GB ddr3 RAM, 1TB HDD and 430w Corsair PSU.

I am looking for a budget GPU to add to it so I can play games with reasonable settings in 1080p.

I will be adding an SSD to the system to spice things up a littel once I figure out how to move my windows install to it, any tips on this would also be great!

Budget for GPU is about €150

Any help greatly appreciated!

1050/1050ti perhaps? Secondhand R9-290 if you can stand the noise.

GTX1050 at around €130 is probably the best option, after that I'd go for one of the cheap GTX1050Ti's at about €160 - any more and it's bad value for money as the RX470 is around €200 and destroys it.

Hard to find a 290 for €150 though, best price I see is €160 in CEX (and out-of-stock)

2nd-hand R9 380 would give 1050Ti (or better) performance, can be found for €150-ish on Adverts (get a 4Gb)

Or yeah, new 1050Ti is fine too.

Hard to find (stock wise) but shouldn't be too bad on price. CEX will always be the most expensive way to go as they have to give a warranty etc.

Palit are fine.

Don't buy that Gigabyte model, it's a regular 1050, much less powerful.

That CPU is basically the little cpu that could.

Kid has one and can run any game with 0 no issues.

Great news, thanks for that. It was in this build already and I cannot afford to upgrade the CPU right now.

Will most likely go for an AMD Ryzen/Vega build in the summer when we have some solid benchmarks and prices to work off


Also looking again I have a friend coming back from the USA in the next few weeks so can probably get a card from over there for a cheaper price. May even allow me to stretch to a RX480 with some of the sales on over there at the moment!
