What sort of CD player could I use to play through my soundbar? All the external drives assume connection to a PC, so have no UI, and all the portable players have only a headphone jack outlet. Will I get one that I can use the Aux Out?

Any CD player with a 3.5mm jack + a bluetooth transmitter. Job done.

There's a bit of whinging about latency with these, but that really only applies for watching video. For a CD player it won't make a difference.

You could get a Bluetooth sender to attaché to a portable player via the audio jack.
Not sure there exists any CD players with built in Bluetooth, kinda mismatched technology timelines.
Maybe there is, I'd be curious myself.
Although this has just inspired me to look into adding a Bluetooth sender to my Stereo which could then send audio via Aux output to Bluetooth speakers around the house instead of limiting to the wired speakers in the sitting room
