Boiler issues

Ok, I have a question about boilers in general.......bear with me, I am not au fait with the technical side of things.

For a few weeks now our Baxi Solo boiler has been on the blink but any time I pressed the reset button, it seemed to do the trick. Now, it's just not igniting at all, no matter how many times the reset button is pressed so we have no hot water. I have read several similar threads here and there appear to be conflicting suggestions as to who best to call out, Bord Gais or an independant plumber and whether it requires just a service or a repair?

Also, we've not used our central heating at all in the last few months and when I went to try it earlier, none of the rads in the house came on, even though they have all been bled and balanced. Is this down to the boiler not igniting?

Any advice would be very much appreciated!!!

Bord Gais gives you more accountability but that can come at a price.

A independent at times can be a better/cheaper option but you have no accountability (other than what a good tradesmen would already give you) as there is nobody policing the quality of the work independent RGIs do, sadly.

If you wish to go the independent route ask for recommendations from friends or ring your local suppliers as they tend to know the good guys.

You require a repair because it's broken but If the fault is simple one nice RGIs will charge you for a service and do both the service with the repair.

Ok, thanks for the advice! "We're" getting someone out from Bord Gais tomorrow. Gonna get us back about 150 but that includes service and parts apparently.......
