    Hi,

Just looking for some advice on my course. I am studying distance learning with Itonlinelearning. I am looking be a programmer behind the scenes rather than a web design programmer. The course work they have recommended i complete is below, my impression was that this i s geared towards web design. ( i could be wrong ) Any thoughts.

Below is what they sent me.

    HTML5
    CSS3

As a new developer it is important to build a foundation in knowledge and the HTML5 and CSS3 languages are essential to this.
HTMLS is the fifth version of HTML which is a markup language for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web.
CSS is the third version of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) which is responsible for the look and feel of a website.
The course package below will provide you with enough material to take you through to Junior Developer level and build a career in Web development where you will then specialise in your chosen/preferred areas.
At this stage it would be possible to apply for junior web design positions.

    Stage 2
    JavaScript 1.8 Fundamentals
    •JavaScript 1.8 Web
    •JavaScript 1.8: Functions
•JavaScript 1.8: Objects, Arrays and Expressions
    •JavaScript 1.8: Object Constructors
    •JavaScript 1.8: Objects
    •JQuery: Fundamentals
    •Jquery: User Interface using HTML5

Javascript is a computer programming language popularly used in client-side and front-end scripts that interact with the web user.
Jquery is a cross-platform JavaScript library of prebuilt code designed to simplify the work of coding on the client-side.

    Stage 3

    Object Orientated Programming
    •Learn to Program in C#
    ASP.NET Web API Basics
    ASP.NET Web HTTP Pipeling
ASP.NET Web API Model Binding and Media Formats
ASP.NET Web API Hosting and Dependency Resoultion

C# is a programming language developed by Microsoft.
Object orientated programming (OOP) is a programming standard that represents concepts such as objects and related procedures known as methods used to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of code.
ASP.NET is a server-side Web application framework from Microsoft designed for Web development produce dynamic Web pages.

Not sure I understand, is that the whole extent to the course, or is that two modules, With the course having more modules?
Front end would be included in all cs or software Dev courses, so it's certainly not unusual to have it included and (someone else might comment) I would think excluding front end would put you at a huge disadvantaged, unless you have a type of dev work lined up?

Client side manipulation is very important as a web dev, and you can't really do that unless you undserstand the fundamentals of Html and CSS.

Bearing in mind that some frameworks like node.js and angular are a complete development platform entirely in javascript, so it would be pretty critical.

    Sounds ok to me

Well this is the course that they have advised me on, i have a diploma in computer science and java programming. (Theory) the course wasnt what it was supposed to be, so no practical java unfortunately. I have nothing like up no, just weighing up my options before i dive in. I have started the HTML5 section an am already enjoying it.

Thats for that, just wanting to be 100% is all. Distance learning so little wary is all.
I had initially thought i would go for software development ( not web design ) but so far studying html its pretty nice, better than i was expecting.
