Downgrade to Yosemite

    Hi guys,

Have a requirement to downgrade an iMac from El Capitan to Yosemite.

Issue is, there's no time machine backup made before the upgrade.

A simple erase and install will revert to the previous OS (Mavericks) and I can then install Yosemite via the App store.

But then there's the issue of reclaiming all data and software.

Any thoughts on a work around?

I was thinking of making a time machine backup of the current data, doing the E&I and then manually pulling data from the backup, but I've seen a few conflicting reports of issues running the software when this is done.

You can probably install it directly from the App Store without wiping the disk. Not sure why you would want to...

Business requirement due to software compatibility issues :/

And option to install Yosemite when El Capitan is installed is a no go. Only option is to wipe the drive from what I have found out so far

Can I ask what software? It could be as simple a fix as disabling system integrity protection.

Extensis universal type Server (4.2) running on Windows server.

Extensis universal type Client 4.2 running on iMac with El Capitan. (Incompatible).

Extensis have released an update to allow version 5 to function correctly on version 5. But it's a paid upgrade from 4 to 5.

Only option I see here is to downgrade to Yosemite. (This is technically not supported either, but was working fine before El Capitan update), and all other Mac's are functioning correctly with 4.2 and Yosemite.

What about Time Machining it to an external drive, wiping it and installing Yosemite, then Migrating Assistanting it back from the external drive?

El Capitan seems to cause issues when you restore back using Time Machine or Migration assistant after reverting to a previous OS.
