I've searched a bit about it and only seem to find a FAQ on their website "how much luggage am I allowed?" And day trip passengers are restricted to one piece of hand luggage while foot passengers can carry two pieces of hand luggage. I'm just not too sure on what that means, as my friend booked our tickets together and we're both foot passengers how much would we be allowed take? And what are the restrictions? It's just we've never gotten the ferry before and we're worried about having to pay more if we bring too much or leaving stuff behind.

You don't have to pay more for checked-in luggage. They only require you to check in luggage as it can get in people's way on the boat or to/from the boat. I can't find it now, but I recall something saying the only limit is you have to be able to handle the luggage yourself (i.e. you don't have a silly amount like five suitcases each).

Also, it depends which route: on Dublin-Holyhead, you have to check in large bags, but on Rosslare-Fishguard overnight, there's more room so they're a lot more lenient and generally allow you to keep all your luggage with you.

CORRECTION: I might be wrong! It looks like there are restrictions for day return passengers - I didn't know this as I've never done a day return on Stena. But for other journeys such as sail/rail to London for example, there's no restriction.
