After having seen many films in my time that were in languages other than English, it's only now dawned on me (strangely) that I have never seen one in Irish. Do many decent Irish language films even exist, or do they only exist as shorts or just to have the exercise of making such a film? Any good films in Scottish gaidhlig, or any from the other branch of the Celtic languages (Welsh, Brythonic, etc.)? As a preference, Irish first, but if nothing after that, then the others. If anyone can think of them (besides Poteen :pac:).

The only Irish language film that I have seen is Poitín and it is the only Irish language film that I have heard of.

A search of Irish language films on IMDb seems to bring up films that are mostly all english.

    http://www.imdb.com/search/title?languages=ga&title_type=feature&sort=moviemeter,asc

I'm sure it's more likely that there are some Scottish or Welsh films as there would probably be more finance there.

I've seen Hinterland on BBC4 - would this count.

If it's the only thing going, then yeah. Pity that there are no Irish language films about, though. Well, besides the one mentioned.

An Bronntanas is being released later this year. It played at the Galway Film Fleadh a few weeks back and will be broadcast on TG$ near the end of the year. It's from Tom Collins who directed Kings and stars John Finn who is Cold Case.

Kings is quite good. Set in London but mostly all as gaeilge.
