    Hi

I've a Twyford toilet in my house. I had pushed the button down one day and nothing happened so I pushed again and nothing. But the button stayed down. Any one any idea what the problem is here? I can post pics if necessary. there is water in the cistern.

    thanks
    Pete

Could be a very simple fix. Lift the lid off and take a few pics. Unfortunately push button toilets are absolutely sh1t and always give trouble.

Pics will help, but the cable housing from the push release (if it's similar to ours) clips into the siphon housing underneath the cistern lid and if it comes loose, this can cause your problem. So have a look and see if that sorts it out for you.

As has been said, they come unhooked. Easy enough to fix but yu have to kinda hold the lid nearly closed and hook it up at the same time :-)

Just to revisit this. I've established what the problem is. It is a little grey link part between the white part that the button screws onto and the arm that pushes the flusher. So I can open it and manually flush it. If I have to replace the whole flush valve there is the hassle of draining and removing the whole cistern, just for this. Is there any easier way??

It may not need to be replaced, probably the alignment is off a little, try adjusting it if you can.
Regarding changing the unit, the main part of the flush valve sits into a bayonet connection, much like a light bulb.
Take a hold of the main body and give it a sharp twist anticlockwise and it should pop out easy enough.
If you can get the exact same one, then just straight swap them. Some, but not many, are interchangeable, that might help you also.
Otherwise its off with the cistern.

Thanks. I can get the exact one. But every video online was all about draining the cistern and removing it that way. I would have originally thought I could have just changed it like you said above.

Zooming in on this image you can clearly see the retaining tags on the flush valve.
A sharp twist anticlockwise to release, some of them can be a bit stubborn.
And don't forget to turn off the valve on the water supply.

So are you saying I just need to change the top half?

Also where is the valve? Pipe at side of loo?

Yep, if you have identical unit to replace, just twist anti-clockwise, lift up to remove, and replace as per K.Fs previous post. ( You can see the locking tabs on the lower part of the unit )

The filler pipe may or may not have an isolating valve underneath the entry point on the right side lower. If it does, then happy days. If not, just turn off the cold supply valve normally located in the hot-press.
