    Hi,

I have a 1990 case international 885xl 2wd in which the power shift is constantly on, is always in hi. I have checked that dash switch and clutch switch. All working as expected. Removed solenoid and control valve under the tractor. Solenoid is operating and took apart control valve everything seems ok.

It seems that the issue is with the torque pack (power shift). Has anyone ever ripped out one?

I believe it can be removed by splitting the tractor at the clutch. However I was told pto shaft would have to be removed.

Could someone give me the steps to do it. Or share there experience of removing a pack with me :).

The reason I'm anxious in fixing this is that I am finding it hard to get into gear. And told this is the cause.

A thought struck me reading this. How long have you this tractor?Had it low torque ever working since you got it ? A lot of them were locked permanently in high. It was abit cheaper to do than fixing properly but lost a lot of advantages by doing so . Top gear was grand and fast but the tractor was as weak as ferrets milk on a hill with a load behind it. The main reason the torque went was the cable engaging it used to stretch and it would be half way between hi and lo.

    Hi,

Have the tractor nearly 15 years, Was working perfect up to a few months ago. Changing between hi and lo and no issues, then all of a shot started to give issues. On this model there is no cable that engages it from hi to lo. It's switched from hi to lo with switch on dash. That activates a solenoid that allows oil into the pack. That engages the hi gear.

Hopefully someone here has worked b4 on one of these :).

It's quite a useful function on these tractors to have working, especially pulling a slurry tanker or a load up a hill.
