Installing an after market stereo in an Astra H

Ok so i managed to get everything installed at the weekend. Except the radio reception is rubbish! Worse than the stock stereo.

Firstly I didn't need to get the separate radio adapter as the adapter I linked to comes with one. It is connected to the ISO connector already going which corresponds with the remote out of my stereo ( blue wire) but as i said above reception is rubbish. I might try the second adapter as im pretty sure I have everything hooked up ok.

The adapter also has two loose wires that you need to connect to other places on your dash, one is "ignition live" and the other is "illumination" or something. I have not hooked up the illumination one yet as its only for making the stereo dim when the lights are turned on.

For ignition live I used a spare wire that is beside the cig ligther

Were you having reception issues with the old radio?

I totally missed this thread I'm sorry :o

With the oem aerial it has a signal booster thingy built in, the aftermarket ones don't, so you need to connect the loose wire on that to a power source iirc to boost the signal. There's loads of threads on it on astraownersclub/network etc.

I didn't think the reception was good with the old radio, but it seemed ok.

What I currently have is bad!

Yeah I hooked that up to the remote out of the stereo, doesn't seem to be doing anything though as the reception didn't seem to get better when I hooked it up.

I might try hook up the spare adapter I have to see is it a faulty adapter after that I might try a different power source.

When I installed the pioneer double din in my Astra the signal was as normal and I didn't even connect the power source.
Forget the radio and enjoy your new aux in I'd say :D

    Hey Guys,

Im looking to replace the CD30 in my astra H with an aftermarket stereo and would appreciate someone giving an overview of my shopping list.

The main reason im changing is that I want an AUX in, I also want a bluetooth car kit, so why not kill two birds with one stone. Also the little pouch that I will gain by switching to single din should be useful as there not really anywhere to put anything like a phone or whatever.

So I'm thinking of getting this stereo: Pioneer DEH-4500BT

So here comes the part im confused with. I have a "life" model astra, I do not have steering wheel controls, and I also have the clock/date thing that has buttons on it.

So i think this is the wiring adapter I need:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004233UE4/ref=gno_cart_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

I also think i need an adapter for my antenna:
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/PC5-137-VAUXHALL-ASTRA-AMPLIFIED-FAKRA-STEREO-RADIO-AERIAL-ADAPTOR-MAST-ANTENNA-/180770615170?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2a16c4af82#ht_2146wt_1186

And a facia adapter (im not positive on the colour, my dash has a slight gold hue to it so i think its the one that is considered "beige")
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/FP-19-01-CB-Vauxhall-Astra-Champagne-Beige-Fascia-Facia-Adaptor-Panel-PC5-110-/150672448063?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2314c71a3f#ht_2134wt_1186

Anyone know if thats the correct parts is there anything else i need/should be getting.

Any Pioneer I've had has had a poor reception and only average sound quality, they certainatly aren't as good as their rep suggests.

This isn't the stereo having poor reception, this is definitely something wrong with my setup. At home here I don't think it funds a single station when I leave it searching!
