    Hi Guys,
Just looking to clarify something if u dont mind.
If a person who cannot affoard a solicitor(on the dole) wants to take a court case against somebody is the aid actually totally free or is there a contribution he/she must make?I read somewhere that it was 10 euro for a consult and 50 for something else but not sure if this is accurate.
    Thanks a lot

10euro for a consultation which has a 1 month (roughly) waiting list. The representation is at least €50 but can be more if you can afford more. Waiting list around 7 - 12 months. Defamation, types of land disputes and licensing cases aren't covered.

Criminal Legal Aid is free however, civil legal aid, where you wish to sue someone else, is not. You generally have to pay a contribution. To qualify for civil legal aid your disposable income cannot be over 18,000 a year and your disposable capital cannot be over 320,000. There is a minimum payment of 10 euro for advice and a minimum payment of 50 euro for representation.

Waiting times for civil legal aid vary from county to county and can be up to 13 months depending on where you live but the centres try to implement a policy of a quick consultation within the first month of you being accepted.

there are many info leaflets available on their website which go into further detail and are very useful.

If you have a good case, many solicitors would deal with it on a "no foal, no fee" basis. The only consideration, presuming you win is if the Defendant can and will pay these sums.

I don't believe legal aid is available for you to take a case unless it's a matter of significant public importance...
