TVs in shops these days are plastered with logos indicating all the SmartTV features you can access if you connect the TV to your broadband when you get it home. However if you study the carton that TV comes in, there's probably a tiny asterisk beside those logos which indicates a qualifier buried in tiny print somewhere which will say something along the lines of 'may not be available in your territory'.

The sale staff in the shops are very shy about telling you all of the features that do not work in Ireland. It's up to you to ask and even then, because the answer isn't written down, they will say pretty much anything they think you want to hear.

Thats true, i did some research alright and i got the TV based on what i needed and wanted, I just noticed this afterwards, no one said anything about it in the shop or anything, I thought of it as a bonus, but it doesnt work so no loss really.

My Dad bought a new Samsung smart TV a few months back,he had no idea how many features were on it or how to use them.Netflix,RTE Player,Youtube, kids stuff, exercise app etc.Just connected to the wifi and they worked perfectly, not that he'll ever bother using them!

Think the lad in the shop suckered him in with guff about the digtal switchover. In his words he also got a ''free Ipad'' as part of the deal, which eventually turned out to be a galaxy tablet.

He shouldn't be allowed into tech shops unaccompanied!

That's what you and I would do but every time you go into an electrical shop you can see mugs clueless punters listening to the sale pitch and that type of person is a sitting duck for the oversell (features which the sales guy knows don't work in Ireland), the 'free iPad' which isn't an iPad (see above) and the extended warranty ripoff.

In most cases you can blame the salesman for the mistakes people make when they buy something in an electrical shop and discover when they get home that they didn't get what they thought they were buying.

    Help needed, or advice.

Just took delivery of Samsung ES6800 SmartTV. Lovely except I having problems connecting to wifi.

It recognises the router, shows a good signal strength. I enter the security key and it times out or something. It just won't connect.

It's too far to run a cable, and too awkward.

    Any advice?????

    triple check the passcode
disable the wifi security temporarily to test
